Six Watches Inspired By Our Neighbouring Satellite, The Moon
The Moon, our beloved neighbouring satellite, has a huge influence on life on Earth; it slows down the rotational speed of our planet, affects the tides of our oceans and forms the foundation of our convention of time. As the Moon is an ever-present celestial body, completing one cycle around our planet in approximately 29.5 days, it’s not surprising that it turns up in many watches, whether in the shape of a moon phase indication or a more aesthetical form. The fact of the matter is that the six watches in this week’s Buying Guide all gaze up at the Moon and beyond for inspiration.?Louis Moinet cosmopolisLouis Moinet is no stranger to lunar or cosmic inspiration and often plays with the topic in its watches, most recently this Cosmopolis. Set in a rose gold Tempograph case with a domed sapphire crystal, the Cosmopolis has 12 different types of meteorites on its dial, including a piece of Moon rock. Ten meteorite specimens are spread around the dial, with an eleventh one in
TAG Heuer reveals the Carrera Middle East L.E. during Dubai Watch Week
TAG Heuer combines two things into a single Carrera launched during Dubai Watch Week. On the one hand, we have Arabic hour numerals, and on the other, we have a luscious emerald green dial. The colour green is highly symbolic in Islamic culture; green represents hope, harmony and prosperity. It has been a very “on-trend” colour and one that doesn’t show signs of letting up anytime soon. Regardless of what you think of the trend, there’s no denying that a well-made green dial can look very good. Let’s take a look at the new TAG Heuer Carrera Middle East Limited Edition. The Carrera by TAG Heuer needs little introduction. Its roots can be traced back to 1953 when Heuer (long before becoming TAG Heuer) produced the 404 series of watches. This chronograph watch was dedicated to the Carrera Panamericana endurance race and evolved into what we now know as the Carrera. First introduced in 1963, the Carrera remains one of the oldest named collections in TAG Heuer
Event Recap: An Exclusive Evening with the Montblanc SIHH 2015 Novelties - Monochrome Watches
Two weeks ago, shortly before we launched our newly designed website, Monochrome had the unique opportunity to invite our readers to an exclusive event that usually is never open to the public. The responses were overwhelming, and the event, called Montblanc’s Black & White Weeks, was, as they say, a big success. The beautiful event room in the Amsterdam Richemont offices was packed and there were thick rows of people in front of the tables with new timepieces. Here’s an event recap with a lot of (matching) photos. The location of the event was just superb. Of course Montblanc could have organized it in one of Amsterdam’s beautiful hotels, however they choose for the superb event room, at the top floor of the Richemont offices. This huge room offers space for the 50+ people that gathered that evening, and (in day light) offers a great view over the city centre. Everything is made of steel and glass, and even the stairs to enter the room are made in glass. The photo
Panerai Luminor 1950 Automatic Flyback Chronograph PAM00653 (Specs & Price)
If you had to define a Panerai watch to somebody who knew nothing about the brand, you would probably end up with a description along these lines: a hefty cushion-shaped case, vintage accents, a unique Italian flair and a simple dial with signature numerals glowing in the dark. Iconic for some, but for others perhaps a bit too minimalist, too empty. However, Panerai has more to offer than time-only watches and if you want more going on your dial, the following?Panerai Luminor 1950 Automatic Flyback Chronograph PCYC (Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge) ref. PAM00653 is definitely one to consider. Let’s get straight to the point: it is one of the coolest Panerai models of the lot (almost unanimously approved among the redaction team). The?Panerai Luminor 1950 PCYC 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Acciaio 44mm?(note to Panerai: please make simpler names for your watches), or the PAM00653 for more simplicity, is part of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge (PCYC) collection,?the leading
