Hands-on with the 2016 edition of the A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Thin, with new face (live pics, specs & price) - Monochrome Watches
This 2016 edition of the SIHH has been very productive for A. Lange & Sohne (again…). We’ve seen the stunning (yes, that’s an understatement) Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon, the poetical and kind of magical Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase Lumen, the very elegant and balanced Saxonia Moon Phase or the highly technical Richard Lange Jumping Seconds. Clearly, the Saxonian Manufacture didn’t disappoint this year. Besides these proper novelties, there was also an update of an existing watch introduced, a watch that may not be the most coveted creation of Lange but one that really has charm and a discrete elegance, the?A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Thin, which?now features a new face.As said in the introduction, the?A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Thin isn’t a proper novelty, as the previous edition of this watch was?introduced at the SIHH 2011, as you can see here, in our dedicated article. However, we have to remind now the 2015 edition of the SIHH, where A. Lange &a
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin Openworked 16204ST Review
1972-2022. Yes, Audemars Piguet‘s most emblematic watch, and one of the most iconic watches of the entire industry, the Royal Oak, is celebrating its 50th anniversary – even though, looking at the watch, it doesn’t reveal its age. As you’ve come to expect, the brand will be using this jubilee as the occasion to revamp some of the models, introduce new in-house movements, launch special editions, etc. Well, we’re talking about an entire 50-year collection. Following the replacement of the Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin, with the new 16202ST we presented here, the brand has also announced a new Extra-Thin Openworked. Following the tradition established for the 40th anniversary of this watch, it’s time to discover the new steel?Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin Openworked, a.k.a the 16204ST.?Openworked & Royal OakThe whole idea of an openworked movement on the Royal Oak is far from new. In fact, the Royal Oak collection has included more than 5
Best Of 2019 - Our Top 5 Chronograph Watches / Buying Guide
The end of the year is fast approaching, so it’s time for us to look back at the best watches 2019 brought to the watch community. And there were a lot of interesting novelties. So, we reunited the MONOCHROME team, debated and we today we start our “Best of 2019” series, looking at the five best chronographs of the year – in our opinion, that is… meaning that you’re allowed to disagree and to share your favourite 2019 chronograph watches with us in the comment section.Blancpain Air Command Chronograph Re-EditionWhy this one? SImple… Look at it. This watch is simply the coolest Blancpain in recent years. While most of the watches produced by the brand are elegant, classic pieces of vintage-inspired divers, this new watch feels different. Blancpain might not be the best-known brand for pilot’s watches (sister-brand Breguet has more pedigree, obviously) but still, the brand, back in the late-1950s produced an elusive watch intended to be wor
Tudor and its Heritage - The old and new Tudor Ranger face to face - Monochrome Watches
Last week, we started a new series of articles named “Tudor and Its Heritage“. As you might have guessed, we are here looking at how Tudor Watches successfully drew the lines of the Heritage collection by looking at some of its glorious vintage watches, however not copying them, but re-interpretating some key elements into a modern package. Vintage-inspiration, not vintage reedition. Our?first episode focussed on the most expected ones, the Submariners and the actual?Heritage Black Bay. However, the Heritage collection does comprise much more, including the Tudor Heritage Ranger, inspired by one of the most controversial watches of the brand, the Oyster Prince Ranger. And we have them face to face today – and we have a little extra too…Background – The story behind?the Tudor Oyster Prince RangerWhy stating straight “one of the most controversial watches by Tudor”? For the catchy sentence? To make?some noise?… No. Actually, this is a real
Hands-On - Richard Mille RM 40-01 Tourbillon McLaren Speedtail (Price)
If Richard Mille has been around for just a couple of decades, it is unquestionably one of the greatest successes in the watch industry. Founded in 2001, the brand is now one of the largest independent watchmakers with a production that remains highly exclusive and an entry price of over CHF 100,000. Mille has had a marked influence on the industry bringing watches like no other, highly technical timepieces inspired by his intense passion for auto racing. When Richard Mille and McLaren announced their partnership in 2016, this seemed to many a natural fit. First, there is the long-standing admiration that Richard Mille has got for the British racing team in 1966, 15-year-old Richard Mille attended the Monaco Grand Prix that marked the debut of McLaren’s Formula 1 debut, with Bruce McLaren behind the wheel of an M2B. Most importantly, McLaren and Richard Mille make cars and watches focused on extremes. A case in point, the latest Mille x McLaren watch celebrates the most powerful
