Hands-On With The New, Redesigned Bulgari Octo Roma Automatic
Rome, la citt¨¤ eterna, exerts a strong gravitational pull on all Bulgari‘s products. The iconic Octo family, which takes its octagonal geometry from Ancient Roman architectural motifs, has many branches, including the invincible legion of ultra-thin record-breaking Octo Finissimo models. The Octo Roma, introduced by Bulgari in 2017, upholds its proud octagonal heritage but exhibits softer lines and displays only 58 facets compared to the dramatic razor-sharp edges produced by the 110 facets of its Finissimo brothers. For 2023, Bulgari refreshes its Octo Roma Automatic Time-and-Date model with a host of updates and a new Clous de Paris dial, a nod to the Swiss blood (movement) animating the collection. The beguiling juxtaposition of an octagon surmounted by a circle that characterises the Octo family was inspired by the octagonal coffering found on the vaults of the 310 AD Basilica of Maxentius in the Roman Forum.?The more rounded, softer lines of the Octo Roma reflect a distinctiv
Buying Guide: Shopping For Chronographs With EUR 2,500 In The Pocket
Every week, we look at countless watches to feature in our Buying Guide, narrowing them down based on a common theme such as colour, material, complication or case shape. Scouting what fits within our selected topic at hand sometimes reveals surprising trends, and this time, we reached an eye-opening conclusion. In the field of relatively attainable mechanical chronographs, both manual and automatic, the spread of brands and models is thinning. While not too long ago we had an abundance of choice for a budget of, let’s say, CHF 2,500, nowadays, a lot of brands have moved their mechanical chronographs up a tier or two. Luckily, though, with a bit of nosing around, there are still plenty of compelling choices on offer! So, with that in mind, here’s our rundown of six chronographs costing CHF 2,500 or less (with one or two slight exceptions).?Tissot pr 516 auto chronoTissot has been on a proverbial roll lately, with hit after hit joining the catalogue. Introducing the Panerai Radiomir 1940 3-Days Automatic with Panerai's First Micro-Rotor Movement - Monochrome-Watches
Off all things we could expect, this was certainly not on our short list. Panerai just introduced their first in-house movement with a micro-rotor. The new P.4000 movement will be officially launched at the Watches & Wonders fair (yes, it’s that season again) in the 45mm large Panerai Radiomir 1940 3-Days Automatic that will be available in stainless steel (Accacio) or rose gold (Oro Rosso.) Let’s have a closer look at this ‘elegant‘ new movement from the brand that is (or was?) inseparable from its military heritage. Every mechanical movement powered by a micro-rotor is simply a bit different from any mechanical movement with a full rotor. Of course, the differences are obvious, but for collectors the micro-rotor powered movements are always a bit more special. Micro-rotor movements have the imago of being a touch more refined, they are loved for not obscuring the beauty of a movement (a full rotor does exactly that) and being more part of the entire design
Introducing: Habring2 Gets Lightning Smart With The Chrono-Felix Top Second
The independent watchmaking duo formed by Richard and Maria Habring, working under the Habring2 name, are close to our hearts for various reasons. First, as you’re probably well aware, because of our first-ever Montre de Souscription and the unique piece we auctioned for charity earlier in the year. Besides that, and probably far more relevant for you all, is the fact Habring2 does things in a very cool, original way. Renowned for the split-seconds chronographs based on the Valjoux 7750 architecture, developed by Richard Habring while working for IWC in the 1990s, the brand is capable of much more. They also like to play around with the seconds indication, as it is one of the few brands to offer both a Jumping Seconds and a high-speed Foudroyante seconds complication. Habring2 now adds a third second-based indication to the collection with the new Chrono-Felix Top Second.?The new Chrono-Felix Top Second next to Erwin shares a similar retro-military look. Before we get into the det
Buying Guide: 6 More Budget-Friendly Geneva Watch Days Novelties
Last week’s selection of novelties from Geneva Watch Days were our personal picks from everything new we’ve seen during our stay in the Swiss capital. Looking back at the list, we stand by our choices, but one thing stood out: all but one watch cost tens of thousands of euros, if not more. While that’s all fine, of course, it’s far from attainable for the average watch enthusiast or collector. Not all of us have the means to purchase a hand-finished tourbillon watch set in rose gold with a sticker price of CHF 155,000. So, with that in mind and plenty more watches on show during this year’s Geneva Watch Days, let’s tone things down to a more sensible level and go shopping for a new watch below EUR 5,000 instead!Doxa 300T AristeraWith the introduction of the 300-piece limited edition SUB 300T Aristera, Doxa caters to left-handed people by putting the crown at 9 o’clock instead of the traditional 3 o’clock position.
