SIHH 2015 - Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15400 Two-Tone - hands-on with live photos, specs & price - Monochrome-Watches
The legendary Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is back in the game and will again make some noise. This watch, originally created in 1972 and designed by Gerald Genta, is an icon and AP knows that very well. Just look at the number of variations and special editions that have been created over the years and you’ll understand why the brand is so keen on this watch. No big novelties for the SIHH 2015, but a reissue of a very well-known edition: the RO bi-metal – stainless steel and gold. Here is the new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15400 Two-Tone.A two-tone Royal Oak is not entirely new for Audemars Piguet. Back in the 1970s, the first edition of the Royal Oak, the extra-thin Ref. 5402 that is lovingly referred to as ‘Jumbo’, was already available in this combination of two metals – stainless steel and yellow gold, to be precise – combined with a superb slate-grey dial. This timepiece is nowadays a rare bird with an increasing value. Even if European customers h
SIHH 2019 - IWC Pilots Watch Automatic Spitfire IW326801 and IW326802 (Hands-On, Specs & Price)
With its focus on military/pilot watches for the SIHH 2019, IWC has launched two 3-hand pilot's watches under the Spitfire sub-range. These could have been simple evolutions of the standard Pilot's Watch Mark XVIII, but there are multiple updates on the model and all models will coexist alongside the Mark XVIII. In the same vein as the?Bronze Chronograph unveiled a few weeks ago, meet the smaller and vintage-inspired IWC Pilot's Watch Automatic Spitfire Bronze or Steel for SIHH 2019.A vintage (and probably field-tested) IWC Mark XI, the inspiration for most IWC pilot’s watches.Inspired by the original and legendary IWC Mark XI (a blueprint for IWC pilot's watches), which was introduced in 1948 for the British RAF (Royal Air Force) and the FAA (Fleet Air Arm), the new Pilot's Watch Automatic Spitfire models are smaller than the Mark XVIII and simplified three-hand versions of the Pilot's Watch Chronograph Spitfire Bronze. The new IWC Pilot's Watch Automatic Spitfire will be availab
The Petrolhead Corner: The EV-Swapped Electrogenic Mazda MX-5
EVs are booming at the moment, and I’ve said before they are here to stay. But, I say this again too; they are a part of the solution to a global problem, but not the?solution. And whenever it involves adding extra doses of fun into cars or preserving classics for future generations, we can certainly get behind the EV movement. Heck, with companies like The Land Rovers and AC Cars taking on the challenge of converting icons such as the Defender and AC Ace to electric drive, we’re not complaining. It’s a way to keep them on the road, despite ever-stringent emissions regulations and whatnot. So, when the news of a do-it-yourself EV-conversion kit for the mighty Mazda MX-5 (or Miata for our US readers) we certainly took notice!?a modern-day iconThe MX-5 or Miata by Mazda has always been a prime example of a fun car. A 50-50 weight distribution, rear-wheel drive, an open-top driving experience, a good bit of power but nothing crazy, and solid reliability pretty much made
Richard Mille RM 029 All Grey Boutique Edition ¡®Yellow Flash - Monochrome Watches
Richard Mille’s RM 010 is an all-time classic by now and most watch connoisseurs recognize its tonneau-shaped case, with skeletonized movement and sapphire dial, instantly. Handling the red gold version for a few minutes, several years ago, was enough to be convinced of the superb quality and comfort. Yet Richard Mille believed it was possible to improve the RM 010, by adding a big date, resulting in the RM 029. Now there’s the RM 029 All Grey Boutique Edition ‘Yellow Flash’.?The RM 029 is recognizable like the RM 010, yet improved on some points. It’s case for instance is more than 1mm thinner and that’s?notable on the wrist. The ‘overused date’ is also a real improvement, as it’s numbers are now positioned horizontally, instead of the vertically positioned date numerals in?the RM 010’s date aperture. What strikes most is that Richard Mille’s watches are both aesthetically as well as technically designed to be the max,
Hands on with the Piaget Emperador Coussin Large Moon - Monochrome Watches
One of the watches that made a big impression since the first time I laid eyes on it, was the Piaget Emperador Coussin Large Moon. Yes it’s big, however at the time I only saw some photos of it. Recently I got the chance to get some hands-on time with it and strap it around my wrist. It was still as good (actually better) as when I saw it on photo several years ago. With the Emperador Coussin Large Moon, Piaget introduced a new movement with a moon phase indication, caliber 860P. The Emperador Coussin Large Moon measures 46.5 mm in diameter, rather large when simply looking at the specifications. However on the wrist it fits perfectly and although it definitely isn’t a small watch, it also isn’t too big. Its size really suits the design with the clean dial and over-size crater surface moon.
