The History of the Vacheron Constantin Overseas - The Other 1970s Icon - Monochrome Watches
In the 1970s, the post-war global economic boom came to an end. The new, accurate quartz watches gained popularity and plunged the Swiss watch industry in a deep crisis. As the inexpensive electronic watches began to flood the market, the competition from foreign manufacturers created a major economic turmoil, and with it, the need for Swiss brands to reinvent themselves, making necessary disruptive changes. And that includes the Vacheron Constantin Overseas, a watch born in that exact period. It was at that time that Audemars Piguet decided to introduce something totally new. Together with the celebration of postmodernism, the 1970s style was all about freedom and eclectic, informal, laidback looks. To break away from their classic – somehow conservative – gold dress watches, Georges Golay, the brand's managing director then, contacted Gerald Genta to design an entirely new genre of wristwatch. My traveling companions - Monochrome Watches
I’m just back –?in one piece – from a three week trip to Jordan and the Egyptian Sina? desert, and here are?some photos that I made during my trip. We planned a trip to Jordan and were considering to visit Syria and/or Egypt depending on the available time and travel possibilities. From the Jordan southern coast it was a short boat trip to Nuweiba in Egypt and the reefs in that area are just great, so time for some diving. On this?trip I had two watches with me:?the IWC Pilot Watch Chronograph (ref. 3717) that I?also had on my wrist a few weeks earlier, when I?visited New York. The other one was my all time favorite vacation watch, the Citizen Automatic Diver.?I’m gonna spare you all the travel stories, since?the?pictures will tell the story for me. I have to add that the historical city of?Petra is very, very impressive and well worth a visit. Another thing you may not miss is taking a plunge into the Dead Sea. That’s a funny experience! Hands-on with the AkriviA Tourbillon Monopusher Chronograph (Photos, Specs and Price) - Monochrome Watches
During Baselworld 2014 we had an opportunity to sit down with the AkriviA crew, including its master watchmaker and founder Rexhep Rexhepi. The young brand stepped up to the plate back in 2012, with quite a complex first creation: The AkriviA Tourbillon Monopusher Chronograph. Under the Swiss sunlight at this year's fair, we got some hands-on time with this debut model and with two new prototype dials as a small bonus!AkriviA, which translates to precision in ancient Greek, was founded by Rexhep Rexhepi and Etienne Deschamp in 2011 (Deschamp has already left AkriviA in order to pursue new challenges). Rexhep Rexhepi is a young master watchmaker with an interesting educational background which includes an apprenticeship at Patek Philipe at the age of 14, and working as movement developer for BNB Concepts (which went bust in 2010, then was partially bought by Hublot, resulting in the Hublot Cle du Temp). Introducing The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 42mm France Limited Edition
Since its introduction in 2020, a launch that marked a new step in the life of the emblematic chronograph of TAG Heuer, the classic Carrera 42mm has been presented in an array of editions, ranging from non-limited models in blue, black or grey, but also some bolder versions in gold, matching the style of the 911 2.7 RS or with colourful accents. Now, all of these watches, even limited ones, were made in relatively large numbers, and available worldwide. However, the latest version of the Carrera Chronograph 42mm is one that will require you to visit France (not the worst place to travel…), but it’s also one of the best-looking editions to date. The present model, TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 42mm France Limited Edition, is as you’ve guessed, a regional model that will only be made for the French market and in 200 pieces only. It is also available on the brand’s e-commerce website, but only when navigating from France. I’d say that, if you’re not livi
