Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin Tourbillon RD#3 26670ST
The Royal Oak 50th-anniversary party is not over yet. In January this year, Audemars Piguet feted the half-century?of its iconic Royal Oak with a host of celebratory models, including a 41mm Royal Oak Flying Tourbillon powered by a recent calibre developed for the brand's Code 11.59 collection. What we are seeing today is also a Royal Oak Flying Tourbillon but one that will excite watch purists because it is the first Jumbo in fifty years to be fitted with an ultra-thin flying tourbillon movement. The challenge for AP's watchmakers and engineers was to accommodate a complication reserved for 41mm ROs inside the smaller 39mm Jumbo case. Given the technical solutions developed by the team to create the new ultra-thin calibre 2968, the Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Extra-Thin 26670ST?is catalogued as Audemars Piguet's third Research & Development project.JumboThe Jumbo is the closest you can get to Gerald Genta's original stainless steel Royal Oak. And then he told me that I could leave out mentioning Hodinkee’s videos. Of course not! At MONOCHROME we also love watching Talking Watches! Now on to the interview with Philipp Budimann, CEO of Montredo. Can you give us a quick histo

Hands-on: The Hypnotic Kudoke Infinity
German watchmaker Stefan Kudoke fell in love with watchmaking as a young man and cut his teeth in the complications and prototypes department of Glashutte Original, followed by stints in the New York service departments of Breguet, Blancpain and Omega. Since branching out as an independent watchmaker on the outskirts of Dresden with his brand Kudoke, the repertoire reflects Stefan’s fascination with handmade skeletonised, richly decorated movements gathered in the KUNSTwerk collection and the more sober, understated models of the HANDwerk family, spearheaded by the Kudoke 1. The Kudoke Infinity we are looking at today breaks rank with earlier editions and offers just the hours and minutes but features a lovely sparkling blue aventurine dial. ?The Saxon-English ConnectionKeen to develop his own calibre, Stefan turned to the design of historical English pocket watch movements with their symmetrical style and a central balance cock. Saxony, the cradle of refined German watchmaking,
