The Airain Type 20 Re-Edition (Specs & Price)
If the concept of pilot’s chronograph is well-established today, it owes its origins to a series of legendary watches. Think about the WWII Flieger Chronographs for the Luftwaffe, the 1953 Breitling Co-Pilot Avi 765 and, of course, the Type 20 Chronograph of the French Aeronavale. The latter has gained true cult status among military and pilot watch enthusiasts and has come to define an entire generation of aviation instrument watches. Many attempts have been made to resurrect the concept, among which are the famous watches by Breguet. Recently, we announced the comeback of one of the suppliers of Type 20, a brand named Airain. Today is the big day, as the brand presents its first model, which is a really cool re-edition of the original Airain Type 20.?The Type 20 WatchesThe original concept of pilot chronographs owes a lot to German Flieger watches. Produced during WWII by Hanhart or Tutima, these watches were commissioned by the Luftwaffe. On the contrary to the B-Uhr (short fo
Andersen Geneve x Asprey Worldtime Double-Signed
In the world of vintage watch collecting, provenance is key in the value attached to a watch. A strong and valuable indication of the early days of a watch is known as the double signature, where the name of a retailer is stamped on the dial. Double-signed watches have been a strong topic of interest recently at auctions, with names like Tiffany, Beyer, Gobbi or Serpico Y Laino multiplying the value of a watch (there’s a highly interesting article on this topic to read here, at A Collected Man). Asprey, a London-based luxury short, is one of them and today, it brings back the concept of double-signed high-end watches, with a handsome Andersen Geneve Worldtime.A perfect example of Asprey double-signed watch, a Patek Philippe Calatrava 565 in steel with Asprey logo at 6 o’clock – image by Phillips WatchesJust like Harrods or Selfridges, Asprey is one of the most influential addresses in London when it comes to luxury shopping. Chopard L.U.C Chrono One - Flyback Chronograph with Integrated Column Wheel - Monochrome Watches
I have a confession to make. I am a frustrated watchmaker. I unfortunately lack the fine motor skills to deftly manipulate the tools necessary in assembling a timepiece. Moreover, I have the wrong psychological mindset to patiently toil at a watchmaker's bench.?In the past, apparently simple DIY tasks, requiring the use of tools, have flummoxed me. A red mist stealthily descends on my psyche and a diva moment ensues as I hurl said tools across the room in a blind rage. This may seem surprising to those who have met my acquaintance, as ordinarily I exhibit patience and calm. However, there is something which drives me to temporary insanity as I chew screw threads with the wayward use of a screwdriver.?A psychologist would find even more to?fill his notepad as my obsessive compulsive order rears its head. A sense of dissonance overwhelms me as I look at the aforementioned damaged screw threads and hashed outcome.?It is with this cocktail of personality traits that I wholeheartedly admire
First Look: The Hot Pink Oris ProPilot X Miss Piggy Edition
The English phrase pigs might fly is used to express the impossibility of something happening. Well, Oris has just given wings to one of the most famous pigs in popular culture with its new ProPilot X Miss Piggy. Combining the sharp looks of the ProPilot X Collection in a reduced 34mm steel case with a hot pink dial, the new watch would have provoked a rush of compliments (in French) from Miss Piggy, the fabulous diva from The Muppet Show. Following the green ProPilot X Kermit Edition, this second collaboration with The Muppets will delight fans of Jim Henson's larger-than-life pig in a platinum wig – or create a bit of a storm for more conservative members of the watch community.?A somewhat surprising model to honour the glamorous Muppet character, Oris has chosen its ProPilot X case, the brand's edgiest and most contemporary model. While the brand is renowned for its historical aviation classics like the Big Crown Pointer Date, the 44mm ProPilot X of 2019 was envisioned as a ne
The 2022 Oris Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy On Perlon Straps
When they were released last year, in the midst of the pandemic, the Oris Divers ve Cotton Candy watches not only came as a surprise, but they also brought a spirit of lightheartedness and fun colours to people yearning to see the end of the pandemic. The timing was just right, and these unconventional pink, light blue and green bronze models became surprisingly successful. This year, the Ho?lstein-based brand expands the Cotton Candy collection with an even more relaxed style by adding Perlon straps to the portfolio.? Once again, these watches have a strong visual impact. And indeed, some won’t understand their very existence. No worries, these aren’t made to be mainstream, and you still have the option to get a black or dark blue dial for your steel Divers Sixty-Five. Yet colours are certainly on the rise, with many recent introductions in green, red, pink or even purple. So Oris surfs on the wave of bright colours and brings back this much-talked-a
