Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda 1950 Tourbillon - Hands-on with the Worlds Thinnest Automatic Flying Tourbillon with Micro-Rotor (live photos, specs & price) - Monochrome Watches
Achieving a record thinness is one of the watchmakers’ favorite games. We’ve seen the world’s thinnest watch being launched recently (that also is a skeletonized one), we’ve seen the world’s thinnest tourbillon arriving on the market and finally the world’s thinnest hand-wound flyback chronograph. Brands are clearly pushing the boundaries of watchmaking with these ultra-thin movements and cases. Such thinness is extremely complicated to achieve (and mostly to combine with reliability). In terms of world’s records, there’s another one that has to be mentioned, as the watch you’re looking at now is the world’s thinnest automatic flying tourbillon. Hands-on with the?Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda 1950 Tourbillon.Ultra-thin watches are interesting for 2 reasons. The first one could be seen as a marketing gimmick. Hands-On - Fortis Aeromaster Old Radium Chronograph (Specs & Price)
Swiss brand Fortis is mostly known for its space-related chronographs, with the Official Cosmonauts range, instrumental, ultra-robust and purpose-built watches supplied to the Russian cosmonaut agency Roscosmos. In addition to watches certified for space travel, Fortis has supplied military squadrons around the world and is still specialized today in pilot’s watches. Vogt's idea was to design watches of outstanding qualities that would deserve the name Fortis or strong in Latin. Since then, the brand is known for its rugged, functional watches and for its long-lasting connection with aviation and space exploration. In particular, Fortis watches became part of the standard equipment for cosmonauts cooperating with Roscosmos, the Russian Space Agency (Editor's
Anti-Magnetic To The Max - The 160,000 Gauss Resistant Omega Watch
Recently, in a long documentary, we went through?the ins-and-outs of anti-magnetism in?watchmaking, illustrated by the brand that simply masters this concept, Omega, and their hyper-strict testing and certification procedure, the Master Chronometer. You thought that the 15,000 Gauss resistance of these watches was already impressive… Wait for this: Omega actually tested a watch, a prototype of a Seamaster Aqua Terra,?to the insane magnetic field of 160,000 Gauss. And believe it or not, it survided and it is now exposed at the Omega Museum, as part of the area of anti-magnetic watchmaking. As of now, Omega has mainly advertised on the 15,000 Gauss resistance of their Master Chronometer watches, an already extremely impressive resistance that is achieved not by making the case antimagnetic but by having developed an entire movement that can’t be affected by these impressive magnetic fields. This movement is named the Master Chronometer and it requires its own testing procedure
