Bulgari Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar (Video, Price)
It's official; Bvlgari has just trumped itself with the seventh world record for thinness. Meet the Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar, the world's thinnest perpetual calendar, compressed inside an automatic movement just 2.75mm thick, and a case of 5.80mm. The sway Bvlgari has exerted on the watchmaking scene for the past seven years is staggering. Not only has the brand crowned itself as the master of ultra-slim movements for seven consecutive years, but it has also redefined the aesthetic of timepieces in a contemporary, stylish design language. We had the opportunity to have a close look at this new, ultra-thin, ultra-impressive piece, with our hands-on photos and, as you can see on top, a video that goes deep into the details!Octo Finissimo Legion of RecordsDuring the past seven years, Bvlgari has earned seven world records for its ultra-thin movements. When Bvlgari unveiled its 1.95mm thin tourbillon movement in 2014, the watch world and brands like Audemars Piguet and Piaget pric
Atelier de Chronometrie AdC#8 Split Seconds Chronograph
Atelier de Chronometrie is something special in the watchmaking scene… Truly special. And what these Barcelona-based guys are doing is absolutely fascinating. ‘Handmade’ takes on its original meaning here and wristwatches in the Atelier are crafted in the good old traditional way. Specialized in 1940s-styled watches based on revived vintage Omega calibres, what you’re about to see is level 2 of Atelier de Chronometrie, an absolutely stunning Haute Horlogerie, hand-crafted, unique Split Seconds Chronograph that I’d love to wear upside-down, just to dive into this superb movement.?Today, we’ll start immediately with the movement. Not that the habillage isn’t worthy of being mentioned – far from that, actually – but the engine inside this watch is a masterpiece, a dream machine for chronograph and independent watchmaking lovers. And this is exactly the raison d’¨ºtre of this watch, which was a special order from a collector of ind
Hot off the presses: Printed watches by ALB Watches - Monochrome Watches
It is time to make a confession. Even though we at Monochrome are highly passionate about fine timepieces and craftsmanship in general, we think about the future of watchmaking too. The future, whether it be smart-watches, cutting edge materials, application of never-before seen technologies or simply new and ingenious complications; we try to take everything in consideration. Even something as unexpected but very today' as 3D-printing, although we are not unbiased to all of this.We briefly touched – or actually predicted – the subject of printed watches or parts a couple of years ago but we've never really seen anything interesting enough to cover since. There have been some intriguing projects since we first mentioned it, including a 3d printed Tourbillon escapement by Nicholas Manousos (albeit in a 1000% magnified scale), including a free sprung balance and a symmetrical Co-Axial escapement. Promising stuff, but nothing for the wrist unfortunately. The people of ALB Watc
Introducing the Richard Mille RM 68-01 Tourbillon Cyril Kongo - Specs and Price - Monochrome Watches
We here at Monochrome get quite a few press releases every day, and sometimes, just sometimes, there’s one that just makes your jaw drop and hit the table. My first thought when this came in, is whether mr. Richard Mille had been smoking something or eating the wrong mushrooms on his Spaghetti con Funghi. After a closer observation -and reading the press release- it becomes clear that this is actually the work of?graffiti/street artist Cyril Kongo and he didn’t use a wall/building/garage door for canvas this time. He used Richard Mille’s tourbillon calibre, and it’s an entirely different ballgame to paint on such a small surface. Here’s the Richard Mille RM 68-01 Tourbillon Cyril Kongo. This new Richard Mille creation is probably?the exact opposite of our magazine’s name, Monochrome Watches. On the new Richard Mille collaboration with Cyril Kongo, the colours are everywhere and they are quite overwhelming. The thing that triggered me is the craftsmans
Introducing the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Memovox Timer
When it comes to chiming watches, most of us will immediately think about the ultra-complex and desirable minute repeater. And Jaeger-LeCoultre is no stranger to this complication. However, there are more than repeater watches to sound the time. A simpler, highly practical but rarely seen function is the alarm.? Mastered by JLC for 70 years now, the alarm can be heard in the Memovox series of timepieces. Today, the brand introduces two new Memovox models, one permanent edition part of the new Master Control collection, and one limited edition with a novel ‘timer’ indication, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Memovox Timer. The alarm functionDespite being one of the most useful (and charming) of all complications, the alarm remains surprisingly rare in horology. Few are the brands to integrate this chiming complication in its watches, and even fewer manufacture them in-house. An alarm watch is designed to ring a signal at a defined time. Everyone probably has cursed their a
