Report - A. Lange Sohne Watches and Cars at 2022 Hampton Court Concours
There are many perks of working as media in the watch world. The watches, of course! The trips and the access to the designers and teams behind the scenes are excellent. But putting the glitz and glamour of the Monaco press trips and fancy lunches aside (which are great for the gram but not the reason I got into this). The truth is, making friends and sharing a passion is what it’s all about. I don't care what the subject is; just give me an event with passionate people, no matter what it is, something we can geek out about and be surrounded by like-minded friends. These are the best of days in the watch world. And the day I’m going to reveal today was one of them…By Justin Hast, London-based independent writer, photographer and consultant who has contributed to MONOCHROME in the past already. Editorial: An Analysis of a Struggling Watch Industry, New and Secondary, for the First Half of 2024
Following three consecutive record years for the watch industry in 2021, 2022 and 2023, recovering from a complex situation in 2020 due to the pandemic, the watch industry in 2024 is not sending the same positive signs. Pessimistic notes in brands and groups’ financial reports, contraction of prices on the secondary market, ambient morosity, increasing inventories, decreasing waitlists and reduced speculation (in all fairness, the last two might be a positive outcome)… This is what our ears are catching in the corridors of the watch industry. What is the situation for the first semester of 2024? Let’s have an overview using the latest reports and analytics we have in hand.?Preliminary note: the analysis of the new watch market is based on either the exports of the industry as reported by the Swiss Federation of the Watch Industry (FHS) or on a brand/group’s perspective, with numbers that take into account the so-called sell-in – sales from a brand to a dis
Vanguart Black Hole Tourbillon (Specs & Price)
If you’re a recurring reader of MONOCHROME, you might know that we have a soft spot for independent and bold watchmaking. We enjoy watches made by small teams, watches that break the norm and display the creativity and soul of the people behind these timepieces. So when such a new watchmaker surfaces, we jump at the chance to look at it with a fresh mind and wide-open eyes. Today, we present Vanguart Watches, a new indie watchmaker with modern designs and complex mechanisms, and its first creation, the impressive Black Hole Tourbillon watch.The team behind Vanguart WatchesThis new brand was founded by four men: Thierry Fisher, Jeremy Frelechox, Axel Leuenberger and Mehmet Korutu?rk. Axel Leuenberger, the CEO with experience at APRP (Audemars Piguet Renaud Papi), is behind the conception of the watch. Thierry Fisher is the creative director. Jeremy Frelechox is the CTO and has 15 years of experience at APRP and six years at Girard-Perregaux. And finally, Mehmet Korutu?rk, Chairman
Weekly Watch Photo - Cartier Rotonde Jour et Nuit - Monochrome Watches
This photo represents what I like so much about watch and photography. The Weekly Watch Photo shows a Cartier Rotonde Jour et Nuit and is made by GEO. GEO is probably the biggest Cartier connaisseur and he shares his passion for Cartier watches through his own website Troisanneaux.com and since a few months as moderator of the Cartier forum at Revolution Online and even once on Monochrome. He wrote a lot about the?Cartier Collection Privee Cartier Paris watches, also known as CPCP watches. The Rotonde Jour et Nuit is part of the CPCP and in my opinion one of the most beautiful examples of this collection. Cartier used the CPCP collection for their finest and most exclusive timepie
2008 -> 2009 - Monochrome Watches
2008 has been quite an exiting year when it comes to watches. As a collector and admirer of fine timepieces i have seen some great new watches. Technically the brands start working with new materials, not only for the cases, but also for movement parts. When it comes to design it seem that the main focus is still on large watches, but i wouldn’t be amazed if this will change next year already.Coming from the Netherlands it also made me proud to see the birth of a new Dutch watch brand. The brother Bart and Tim Gronefeld showed their first watch during the European GTG a friend and i organised last november. The Gronefeld GTM06 shows an incredibly high standard of finish and the minite repaeter gong… well, you have to hear them to believe the incredible sound coming from a small wristwatch!From a personal point of view i hope to see some more reasonably priced and reasonably sized watches next year. Not every brand needs a tourbillon i think. And not every brand needs to hav
