Taking a closer look at 6 recently launched red-hot watches
We are all very well aware of the fact green seems all the rage over the past few years. It is a trend that really gained momentum three, maybe four years back. Sure, prior to that we saw green dials as well, but nowadays they are everywhere. We've also noticed a shift towards other colours, something we've addressed before (here and here) and we welcome very much. One of the colours seemingly popping up and getting some love is red. The fiery tone can be seen on a number of new watches, with six of them listed in today’s Buying Guide.TAG Heuer Carrera Red Dial EditionOne of the most recent crimson red wristwatches to be released is the TAG Heuer Carrera Red Dial Limited Edition. And although we haven't seen it in person, the sunray brushed red dial sure seems to pop against the steel case. Being a Carrera, it features all the hallmarks that make this such a classic. It comes in a steel case measuring 39mm across and about 15mm in height (due to the box-shaped sapphire crystal).
Introducing: The 2023 Editions Of The Chopard Mille Miglia GTS Chronograph & Classic Chronograph
Just as every year, Chopard launches new iterations of its iconic racing chronograph, named after one of Italy’s most famous racing events, the Mille Miglia. This daunting open-road race was held between 1927 and 1957 and made history thanks to some of the greatest racing cars piloted by the bravest drivers imaginable. The event returned in 1977 as the Mille Miglia Storica, a classic car event eligible for pre-1958 cars that registered or raced the original Mille Miglia. Chopard has been the title sponsor for this highlight event of the year for 36 years and named its racing-inspired watch collection after it. New for 2023 is a limited edition of the GTS Chronograph with a charity incentive as parts of the proceeds are donated to the victims of the recent Emilia Romagna floods. Also joining the collection is a quartet of new models of the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph, with a new size and new colours. The Mille Miglia road raceAs said, the Mille Miglia event is one of the most
John Calvins Austerity and the Birth of the Swiss Watch Industry - Monochrome Watches
The Protestant Reformation, inaugurated by Martin Luther's posting of his 95 theses in opposition to the Roman Catholic Church, began a wave of reform that swept across Europe and into the New World of the Americas. In Switzerland, John Calvin became a leader of the movement, reforming not only Church doctrine, but also the city of Geneva. Who knew that his puritanical sway over the city would be the catalyst for the Swiss Watch Industry? The Reformation cry, “Sola Fide (Faith Alone) and Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone)”, Calvin took in a literal fashion by imposing anti-sumptuary laws in Geneva. In 1541, he banned the wearing of jewelry. No longer could the shops display enticing gold and diamonds, and the jewelers found themselves in a quandary. Refugees from France and Italy came to the rescue, teaching the jewelers how to make watches. Calvin deemed the watch to be a practical instrument, and so allowed its production and sale and unwittingly created a loophole. This all

Introducing: The 2023 Roger Dubuis Knights of the Round Table
While the modern side of Roger Dubuis is unmistakably all about bold high horology (what the brand names Hyper Horology), there’s one collection that might even make a greater impact with watches infused with Medieval mythology and, in particular, by the legendary knights of the fellowship of King Arthur. Ever since the first Knights of the Round Table timepiece was unveiled in 2013, this theme has been central to Roger Dubuis, which today unveils the latest version of this distinctive watch.?Anti-conformist, bold, unique in this field of horology… The whole concept behind the Roger Dubuis Knights of the Round Table collection is certainly powerful. Not a ‘consensual’ watch by any stretch of the imagination. With the latest version that’s just been presented, the brand is again demonstrating its capacity to combine strong design cues and impressive craftsmanship. Despite a design that won’t be unanimously accepted, we can’t overlook the level o
