Introducing The Turquoise Audemars Royal Oak 37mm 15550BA
Audemars Piguet was famous for its use of stones in the 1960s and the 1990s, with dials made from lapis lazuli, aventurine, garnet, mother-of-pearl, opal, ruby, amethyst and other stones. Turquoise is one of the oldest known stones, as Egyptian and Chinese civilizations used it over 3000 years ago. It here finds its place in the collection for its unique colour and spiritual qualities. The new Royal Oak Selfwinding 37mm 15550BA in 18k yellow gold with a dial cut from a turquoise stone is the first to offer this combination of materials and is another addition to the very few “no-tapisserie” Royal Oak watches. The versatile, mid-size 37mm versions of the Royal Oak collection were added to the series only in 2012 but were updated last year, in line with the design evolution of the brand from Le Brassus –?released to mark the 50th anniversary of its omni-important model, created by Gerald Genta in 1972. Buying Guide - 6 recently revived brands and watches
One of the most popular categories of watches in recent years is the revival watch. Bringing back a historic model and paying tribute in a very faithful manner can result in truly cool watches. And it’s not something done only by mainstream manufacturers like Longines or Tissot, but also by smaller, lesser-known manufacturers. And it becomes even better if a re-edition of a watch comes in the form of a completely revived brand. We all know the quartz-crises wreaked havoc in the watch industry in the 1970s and 1980s, causing many brands to go defunct or dormant, including some of the names listed today. But with the rise of the revival watch, some of these names have made a glorious return. With that in mind, lets take a look at 6 of the coolest revived names and watches.Aquastar Deepstar 39First up is Aquastar, a brand that originated in the early 1960s and was revived a couple of years ago. 2021 Yema Superman Heritage GMT Pepsi and Grey-Blue Hands-On
Yema is arguably one of the best-known French watchmakers with a rich history. Younger French brands such as Baltic have been getting a lot of attention lately, but Yema dates back to 1948 with several historic watches. The Superman model is its crown jewel, which debuted in 1963 and became a favourite of French Air Force pilots and professional divers. It came standard with a 300-metre water-resistance rating and unique bezel-lock mechanism. Yema draws from the past with two new Superman Heritage GMT dive watches, one with an always popular Pepsi (blue and red) bezel, and one with a more toned-down grey/blue colour scheme. Let’s have a closer look at these two new editions. The Yema SUPERMANBased in the town of Morteau, France, Yema has definitely left its mark in a crowded industry. Formula 1 champion Mario Andretti wore a Yema Rallygraf chronograph and Jean-Loup Chretien brought the first French watch into space in 1982, the Yema Spationaute 1. A specialised model was also used
Hands-On - The 2017 Oris Regulateur 'Der Meistertaucher' (Specs & Price)
Think about it for a?second… What is the most important feature of a dive watch? Its water resistance? Its second hand? Its bezel? Of course, it is a combination of all these elements however, and I am sure pro-divers will agree, THE ultimate?feature of a dive watch is the minute hand. For safety reasons, the minute hand is key to calculating the remaining dive time and decompression stages. Oris has been well aware of this?already for some years and so this year presents?a new version of the?Regulateur ‘Der Meistertaucher’, a watch that has been intensively?thought through, built for pro-divers and offers?a very?appealing original display. When it comes to?professional-oriented dive watches, Oris’ reputation has been firmly established. Think about the Aquis Depth Gauge, the Prodiver 1000 or simply the Aquis Date. All of them are sturdy, well conceived, purpose-built watches with recognition as legitimate instruments by those who, in the end, have authority: div
