First look: The Breitling 140th-Anniversary Trio of New Perpetual Calendar models
Founded in 1884 and celebrating its 140th anniversary this year, Breitling is no stranger to innovation and important milestones. In 1915, it launched the first wrist-worn chronograph with an independent pusher. In 1934, it patented a watch with a second independent pusher. In 1969, it participated in the creation of one of the first automatic chronograph movements, the Chronomatic or Calibre 11. In 2009, the brand released its first in-house-developed movement, the Calibre B01. Today, it’s time for yet another important movement to be presented, the Calibre B19, the first in-house perpetual calendar movement of Breitling… And yes, there are watches to be equipped with it too.The Breitling Calibre B19In-house manufacturing became important for Breitling back in 2009, when the brand introduced the calibre B01, its first internally developed and produced movement. This movement, an automatic, integrated chronograph with column-wheek and vertical clutch, opened the door to fur
Hamilton Chrono-Matic 50 Auto Chrono - Introducing, Specs & Price
It seems that Hamilton is on fire, with multiple well-received, vintage-inspired releases, such as the Khaki Pilot Pioneer, the Khaki Field Mechanical or the Intra-Matic. As we’re still in 2019 and still celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Chrono-Matic/Calibre 11 movement, the brand introduces another watch modelled on a glorious watch – and this time, it won’t be for the faint-hearted. Meet the new Hamilton Chrono-Matic 50 Auto Chrono “Count-down”.A reissue of the Count-down GMT Chrono-MaticAfter reissuing the Hacked, the H-10 and the Chrono-Matic, ex-American, now Swiss brand Hamilton looks at another of its glorious models, the base for today’s revival watch: the Chronograph-E or Count-down GMT Chrono-Matic. This movement is charac
Baume & Mercier Clifton Baumatic 5 Days / Chronometer - Hands-On Review (Specs & Price)
Last month, we wrote about an unexpected new timepiece from an unexpected source: the Clifton Baumatic from Baume & Mercier. Officially unveiled at SIHH 2018, we had the chance to spend some time getting hands-on with this all-rounder/dress watch and were quite impressed with what we found. The big news was, of course, the introduction of the brand's first proprietary movement, coupled with a very accessible price. Upon closer inspection, however, we discovered there was a lot more to like.Over the last five years or so, in-house and proprietary movements have become very “en vogue”.? Whether that translates into better quality is probably still up for debate. More often than not, an in-house movement is indicative of higher pricing, which seems logical. Building a vertically-integrated manufacture capable of creating in-house movements from scratch is an expensive undertaking and those costs need to be recovered somehow. Right? Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Full-Steel 2022 - Video Review, Price
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Collection was introduced in 1992 and has since been the classic, slightly vintage branch of the brand. The collection combines an impressive technical rigour with a stylistic approach inspired by classic round timepieces made by JLC in the 1950s. And of course, there’s the fact that these watches undergo the brand’s 1000 Hours Control certification. The Master Control was refreshed in 2020?with a more streamlined and more contemporary design, yet with the same timeless attire as before. Available in several versions?with different calibres, it’s time for this somewhat formal collection to become more versatile, as the Master Control Calendar and the Master Control Chronograph Calendar now come with interchangeable stainless steel bracelets (and leather straps). The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control is the best definition of a classic luxury watch at Jaeger-LeCoultre. Restrained, elegant, discreet and timeless, it combines the brand
Hands-on with the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Extreme LAB 2 - Photos, Specs and Price - Monochrome Watches
Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced the original Master Compressor Extreme LAB 2 five years ago, during the SIHH 2010. Shortly after this year’s SIHH (Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie) they introduced a slightly redesigned version with blue hints. It is still one of the most technical sports chronographs on the market and it leaves many of the ‘design’ sports chronographs far behind, when it comes to robustness, functionality and practical use. Today we go hands-on with the new?Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Extreme LAB 2, a proper sports chronograph. What do you expect from a chronograph? That it measures elapsed time? Let’s ask the similar question for dive watches? Do you expect it to sport an abundance of technical features, or will you settle for a uni-directional rotating bezel and the correct depth rating of say 300 meters? When it comes to dive watches it seems that there’s so much more available than just the 300m depth rating and a uni-direc
