Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph Frosted Gold Purple - Review, Price
You are all familiar with the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, with its history, and its multiple manifestations but the model we have for our hands-on session today is going to elicit some very extreme reactions, good and bad. Although there is nothing novel under the hood or structurally about this Royal Oak chronograph, this is a very particular piece and as such is a limited edition of 200 pieces. What we're looking at here today - and coming to terms with - is a 41mm Royal Oak chronograph with a frosted white gold case and a loud purple dial. Hate it or love it, let's get to know it a little better.Born in the 1970s, the Royal Oak was a child of its timeLeading on from the flower power groove that marked the 1960s, the 1970s heralded a turbulent decade marked by student unrest, Vietnam, Watergate, the oil crisis, bell-bottoms, lava lamps, rock music and disco lights. You know us here at Monochrome-Watches. Apart from the big names, there is something?that we especially love here: independent watchmaking. We do have a special appeal for watches manufactures by independent, smaller and creative watchmakers, not because they are always better executed?than those from the bigger brands, but mainly because they have something extra: a soul, a link to the people behind their construction, a certain originality that large brands can’t achieve (mainly for commercial reasons…). In order to experience (again) this feeling, we did get our hands-on a rather unique watch, the?Bovet 19Thirty Dimier with blue dial.Brief overview of Bovet 1822For those who aren’t aware of this brand, there are certain important facts to know. Pre SIHH 2014: Introducing the Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Ultra Thin 1931 Pink Gold Case and Chocolate-toned Dial - Monochrome Watches
Three years after introducing the first Grande Reverso Ultra-Thin Tribute to 1931, Jaeger-LeCoultre created a second pink gold version, now featuring a lovely chocolate brown dial. The full name of this watch – Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Ultra Thin 1931 Pink Gold Case and Chocolate-toned Dial – is quite a mouthful. The name might be a tongue-twister, but with these looks it can easily become a heart-breaker as well. (pre-Jaeger) LeCoultre Reverso from 1934The Reverso finds its roots in the polo game, back in the 1930’s, and has appear in many different variations over the years. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary, Jaeger-LeCoultre chose to return to the very origins by presenting the Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute to 1931, which was directly inspired by the aesthetic codes of the historical model. The ultra-thin case, and just on the early models the dial lacks the brand name and only has the model name – Reverso – printed on it.Reverso models
