Opinion - Why the Captain Willard SPB153 is The Coolest Seiko of 2020?
Earlier this year, Seiko brought back one of its legendary designs, a watch that not only marked the brand’s history and became an incredible commercial success in the 1970s, but a watch that gained fame after being worn on Captain Willard's (Martin Sheen) wrist in Apocalypse Now. Available in black and in green, and despite the fact that the green version is not historically relevant, I immediately fell in love with this olive-coloured, military-inspired edition… and I bought it. So, let’s make it clear, this article is not going to be objective. It’s not going to be factual. But it will simply reflect why I think (why I’m sure, actually) the Captain Willard SPB153 is the coolest Seiko of 2020.BackgroundBefore we move on with this article, it’s important to remember where the Seiko ‘Captain Willard’ Reissue comes from. This isn’t the first time that Seiko brings back a reissue of the so-called Turtle watch. There’s already a
Introducing the Omega Seamster Planet Ocean 43.5mm Master Chronometer in Black and Orange - Monochrome Watches
Most of certainly know the Planet Ocean collection, which in a few years, became a sort of a norm for the Seamaster. This high-performance dive watch is known for its 600m water resistance and helium escape valve but mainly (and that’s what matter for most wearers), it is recognizable because of its rather bulky and masculine design, making it successful for those in a need of sportiness. For Baselworld 2016, there’s a revamp of the collection, including this new?Omega Seamster Planet Ocean 43.5mm Master Chronometer in Black and Orange – new size, new movement, new colors, new materials… but still the iconic look. This new?Omega Seamster Planet Ocean 43.5mm Master Chronometer bears several improvements, several innovations (at least for this collection) and also brings a bunch of visual evolutions. Doxa SUB-300 Black Lung Reissue - Review with Live Pics, Specs & Price
The Doxa SUB-300 is regarded as one of the most important watches?of all time amongst the diving community. Launched in 1966, it was certainly not the first dive watch (that credit goes to the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and the Submariner, both launched in 1953), however, it was one of the first professional dive watches and, for that alone, it is historically important. This year, Doxa follows up the success of 2016's sold-out 50th Anniversary SUB 300 Professional with another vintage-reissue, this time bearing the famous Aqua-Lung logo. Here’s the Doxa SUB-300 “Black Lung”, a tribute to an ultra-rare 1967 vintage Doxa prototype. Some History – the?Doxa SUB-300The concept of the dive watch, and by that we mean a watch specifically developed to fulfil the needs of professional divers (which was the case in the 1950s until the 1970s, before diving computers emerged), began to emerge after World War II when the quest to understand?the silent underwater world properl
TAG Heuer honours Senna with a new Special Edition of the Formula 1
The 1st of May 1994 will forever be remembered as one of the darkest days in Formula 1 racing. A day in a racing weekend that was already looking pretty grim, as the sport lost not one but two drivers. Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger both fatally crashed at the (in)famous Imola race track. With Ayrton Senna's status as one of the greatest drivers ever to grace a racetrack, it's only natural that he still serves as an inspiration to many of us today. Collaborations and endorsements are also part of the game, even back in the 1980s. And for TAG Heuer and Ayrton Senna this started in 1988, the year he became world champion. Now, close to 35 years later, TAG Heuer honours the legend once again with the new Formula 1 Senna Special Edition. This 2022 edition of the Senna watch by TAG Heuer is a homage to the company’s first Ayrton Senna-branded watch. As the driver continues to inspire generations of race car drivers and fans the world over, it's no surprise
Video - Discovering the Czapek 2020 Novelties during Geneva Watch Days
Following our visit to Geneva Watch Days, the only main watch-related event organised this year in Europe, we had the chance to finally discover in the metal some of the newest timepieces introduced earlier this year, as well as all-new models from more than 15 brands. Besides the large, established brands (such as Bvlgari, Ulysse Nardin or Girard-Perregaux), multiple creative and high-end independent manufactures were also present, including Czapek, one of the most active brands in this segment of the market, with its original horizontal integration and crowdfunding equity business model. Today, we take the time to talk to Xavier de Roquemaurel, CEO of the brand, to discover the new models of this year.Since its (re)inception in 2015, Czapek, who was once the partner of Patek, has demonstrated its capability of creating very interesting watches and calibres. After the inaugural “Quai des Bergues” collection of elegant watches inspired by antique pocket watches, it was time
