Pre-SIHH 2019 - Girard-Perregaux Laureato Perpetual Calendar (Specs & Price)
The?Laureato, since its introduction at the SIHH 2017, has been a great success for?Girard-Perregaux and had allowed it to get?back into the ultra-competitive and oh-so-trendy market of the luxury sports watch. Already existing in an array of models (3-hand, chronograph, tourbillon, skeleton, full ceramic), the brand continues the expansion of this collection by now looking at traditional complications. As a preview of what is to come at the SIHH 2019, meet the new?Girard-Perregaux Laureato Perpetual Calendar, in sporty steel attire. This watch is clearly intended to compete with the AP Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar and the PP Nautilus 5740G. However, as with the rest of the Laureato collection, this new Perpetual Calendar version is a slightly more “accessible” offering (relatively speaking, of course). That doesn’t mean shortcuts either, as the movement in this watch has great arguments and the design, thanks to an original display, makes a statement. Ad -
Introducing: The Longines Spirit Flyback Now in Titanium
Introduced in 2020, the Longines Spirit collection has been, without a doubt, the brand’s most prolific range in the past few years. Since its presentation, we’ve seen multiple editions, most of them built around the needs of pilots. Following a time-and-date, a?chronograph, a?no-date and recently a cool GMT Zulu time, without mentioning the different sizes, colours or materials, Longines released its flagship model, a large and high-end chronograph with column wheel and flyback, the aptly named Longines Spirit Flyback. First seen in stainless steel and reviving an important complication for the brand, this bold chronograph now comes back in titanium, which might be a good thing given its size.?Longines’ expertise in pilot’s watches is undeniable, as we’ve seen when the Spirit collection was introduced. Great explorers like Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart or Howard Hughes broke records or achieved impressive flights wearing a Longines on the wrist. This
Hands-On - Habring2 Perpetual-Doppel (Live Pics, Specs & Price)
In 2004, an Austrian couple, Maria and Richard Habring, embarked on a surprising but successful horological journey by creating their own brand named Habring2. Fifteen years is a relatively short period of time but has proved enough to accomplish their goal: to become a true Austrian watch manufacture, respected and capable of producing great watches. To celebrate this anniversary,? Habring2 are unveiling their most complex watch to date, a perpetual calendar topping the signature DoppelChronograph movement – Habring2 obliges!BackgroundFifteen years aren’t enough to summarize the history of Habring2. To understand where this unique, Austria-based watch manufacture comes from, we have to go back in time. Before starting his own brand with his wife, Richard Habring worked at IWC and was involved in movement creation. His main and best-known project had to do with a complex (understand expensive) complication: the split-seconds chronograph. Richard Habring’s task was to
The Speedmaster Chronicles #5 - Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of Omega Watches
Today is the fifth and last episode of “The Speedmaster Chronicles“. We’ve been looking at the past (the NASA story, the vintage collector) and the present (auctions and markets, Speedy Tuesday movement) and today we need to close the circle. It’s time for us to understand what the Speedmaster represents?for Omega and to look at the future, to see what it will mean in the coming years. For that, we asked the man who is the current guarantor of this iconic watch, you name him:?Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of Omega Watches, and a veteran of the Omega family. You’ll see, he knows the watch and he loves the watch. A businessman with true passion. It’s not an easy task to be the man responsible for the conservation of such an iconic watch. To our own surprise, the question of keeping the Speedmaster Moonwatch into the collection was even brought to the table in the early 1990s. Thankfully, Omega decided to keep it and this watch, especially the &
Capturing The Ocean's Energy, With Six Watches With Wavey Dials - Monochrome Watches
Dial textures can make or break a watch, but if done right they elevate the display of time into something gripping, something very impactful. One of the more common but always interesting textures, especially in aquatic (-inspired) watches, is the wave pattern. Sure, Clous de Paris or vertical or horizontal grooves are often very nice, but there’s something rather appealing in replicating the gentle undulations of the ocean. And that isn’t relegated to pure dive watches, as more sporty land-locked alternatives or even seriously complicated watches are adorned with waves. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the best! And yes, I am well aware of the fact the list includes two (soon-to-be) sold-out limited editions, but they’re just too good to be ignored.?Omega Seamaster 300M No-DateOf course, we had to start with the long-awaited but secretly already revealed Omega Seamaster Diver 300M No-Date. It was teased on Daniel Craig’s wrist numerous tim
