Audemars Piguet Royal Oak RD#2, The Worlds Thinnest Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar (SIHH 2018)
As with all industries, the watchmaking world is subject to trends. One that we’re not unhappy to see resurfacing is ultra-thin watches. Piaget kicked things off?in December with the thinnest automatic watch, followed at the SIHH 2018 by?the thinnest mechanical watch ever created (2mm thick, no less). It is now time for Audemars Piguet to?come on board and demonstrate, if it’s even necessary, that they know a bit about watchmaking. Here is the?Royal Oak RD#2, which at a staggering 6.30mm thick is the thinnest self-winding perpetual calendar on the market today.Reminder 1… Audemars Piguet has always had a soft spot for ultra-thin watches. Forget about the massive Royal Oak Offshore Tourbillon/Grande Complication/Diver Chronograph. Instead, take a look at the watch that created the modern side of Audemars, the 1972 Royal Oak 5402ST. It was and still is one very thin watch, with an automatic movement that was thinner than most hand-wound calibres. Its modern iteration, t
First Look: The White Gold AP Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin Openworked 16204BC
Last week, we covered most of the new models introduced by Audemars Piguet, as part of the 2024 collection – which included a new ROO time-and-date, a handsome new alloy named Sand Gold and a striking collab watch with John Mayer. There is one watch that we’ve kept away for now, but it’s a stunner. Based on our all-time favourite, the Jumbo Extra-Thin case (the original Royal Oak…), AP is bringing a new version of the Extra-Thin Openworked in white gold (16204BC) with a sleek grey-on-grey colour scheme.?The Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin Openworked reference 16204 was introduced as part of the 50th-anniversary collection in 2022, which included the all-important 16202ST, the revised version of the classic Jumbo. Basically an openworked version of the aforementioned model, the Jumbo Openworked brought back a concept that was launched for the model’s 40th anniversary, with the reference 15203PT, a 40-piece limited edition. Interview - The Online Watch Market - Claudio de Giovanni from Verado
After a look at Chrono24, Montredo and WatchBox, we continue our series focusing on understanding the online watch market – certainly one of the most important trends in the watch world today. Today, we’re talking to a newbie in the world of online watch marketplaces. The name of the company is Verado and its Founder & CEO is?Claudio de Giovanni. What makes Verado unique? It claims to be “the facilitator of fair transactions between real people” – something that will be explained in the following interview.?Can you give us a quick history of Verado? What’s old is new again. Trends come and go, and come back again.
