Guide - Our Favourite Models of Watches & Wonders Below €10K
The largest watch fair of the year is just over, so it’s time for us to sit down and to look back in details at what exactly happened during this very intense week. Watches & Wonders, previously named SIHH, is the initiative of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie… and as expected with such a name, the focus isn’t really on accessible watches. Still, there was a substantial number of newcomers for the 2021 edition, many of them playing in a more reasonable side of the market. And all in all, there have been numerous new watches launched in a price range that a larger portion of watch enthusiasts can actually consider. So here are most of the new models launched at Watches & Wonders 2021 priced below EUR 10,000, as well as our 6 favourite watches.?Carl F. Bucherer Heritage Bicompax Annual “Orca”Not per se an entirely new watch, but a very handsome evolution of an already attractive watch. The Heritage Bicompax Annual was introduced in 2019, with a s
Introducing The Ollech & Wajs OW 56 M, Upclycled From Unused Stock
Producing robust tool watches for pilots, divers and soldiers since 1959, partners Joseph Ollech and Albert Wajs relied on third parties to source movements, cases, dials and even tritium hands to ensure the best possible Swiss quality at the best price. Following its revival in 2017, Ollech & Wajs, aka OW, sticks to its utilitarian guns and still outsources Swiss movements to contain costs. The latest model – the OW 56 M – with its convincing 1940s military pilot watch vibe goes one step further and combines vintage new old stock (NOS) parts with contemporary components and a 38mm upcycled case from unused stock.?The BackstoryPartners Joseph Ollech and Albert Wajs started their adventure in watchmaking, distributing Omegas and Breitlings from their watch shop in Zurich. In 1956 they created their own brand specialising in robust tool watches, much appreciated by soldiers, divers and pilots. Wajs favoured movements with solid reputations from ETA, Dubois Depraz, and Val
Antiquorum - Monochrome Watches
On october 16th the next Antiquorum watch auction will be helt in New York. The antiquorum auctions are very interesting for any watch enthousiast, for several reasons. First of all the number of watches being auctioned are enormous and the number of interesting, amazing or stunning watches are almost equally enormous! The online catalog shows everything up for sale, including very good descriptions and photos of the watches. There are 330 wristwatches up for sale and 74 other timekeepers like pocket watches, clocks and travel (alarm)clocks. Especially some rare and vintage sportswatches steal the show i think, but there are also plenty of reasonably priced modern watches that are well worth a look.Maybe this is not my favorite watch of the auction but with an estimate selling price of between 500 and 1,000 USD this Mont Blanc Timewalker chronograph might turn out to be a bargain. Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Memovox Timer Gold Limited Hands-On
The name Memovox has been associated with Jaeger-LeCoultre for more than 70 years, being one of the most famous (and also one of the last) alarm watches on the market. The brand has established a tradition by releasing watches equipped with this function ranging from classic timepieces to sports watches. One of the most appealing recent models to surface with the buzzing alarm was the limited edition Master Control Memovox Timer with its blue dial, engraved areas and timer function. The watch now returns in a new version, mixing warm tones of gold with an elegant black dial.?The 2020 Master Control Memovox Timer?in steel with a blue dial.Whenever you hear (pun intended) the name Memovox at Jaeger-LeCoultre, you know that it has to do with an alarm function. Somewhat overlooked these days, this striking complication might be the simplest when it comes to sound functions, but it remains fascinating due to its entirely mechanical nature.
