Hands-On - A. Lange & Sohne 1815 Chronograph Pink Gold / Black Dial (Specs & Price)
The?A. Lange & Sohne 1815 Chronograph is far from being a new watch. Indeed, even if it was updated in 2015?with a new dial that actually?goes back to (almost) the original design of this watch, it is a well-known and well-established member of the collection. New animations were introduced at the SIHH 2018 and the?1815 Chronograph is now available in pink gold. A good enough reason to take a look back at this superb chronograph – and its stunning movement. What exactly is the?1815 Chronograph? To put it in down-to-earth terms, it is the “entry-level” chronograph in?A. Lange & Sohne’s collection and an almost “accessible” watch considering what you get for your money. I know I will sound provocative by talking this way about a €50k watch – and I’m doing this deliberately – but the reality is that this watch has an incredible quality/price ratio. Yes, it is a huge amount of money for a watch, but what a watch it is. However, l
SIHH 2018 - Wilhelm Schmid of A. Lange & Sohne, On The New Collection - Monochrome Watches
As with every year it seems, A. Lange & Sohne's creations are once again the talk of SIHH. Last year, it was the mega Tourbograph Perpetual Pour le Merite (read our hands-on review here.) This year it's the incredible Triple Split, a truly unique complication that enables you record two separate times of up to twelve hours each! On a more sombre note, this year also marks the one year anniversary of the passing of Mr. Walter Lange (1924-2017), the founder of the modern-day A. Lange & Sohne. We spent some time with A. Lange & Sohne's CEO, Mr. Wilhelm Schmid, to learn more about this year's novelties and how the brand is paying tribute to its late founder.?As Mr. Schmid so eloquently explains in the video above, the focus for Lange this year is two-fold. The first point is to pay tribute to their late founder and beloved industry icon, Mr. Walter Lange. To this end, the Saxon manufacture is enlarging its 1815 collection with the 1815 Homage to Walter Lange, comprised of three
COOL FINDS: 3 rarities from indie watchmakers - Monochrome-Watches
After showing you some highly interesting vintage timepieces?from Heuer and some rare vintage chronographs from Airain or Universal Geneve, we wanted to move on to our favorite subject: independent watchmakers. Those type of watches are always made in very limited editions and finding pre-owned ones is complicated. Here are three rare birds that you might like as much as we do.A classical Speake-Marin J-Class ResiliencePeter (Speake-Marin) is a very good friend of Monochrome-Watches. We’ve always thoroughly enjoyed?his work. He has now moved on to building some very nice, more affordable, pilot watches (the Wing Commander, the Seafire Chronograph and the Spirit MkII) but he also has his classical line, the J-Class, represented by dress watches, with in-house calibers and even a tourbillon. Collector's Series - @NYCWATCHGUY And His Urwerk UR-220 Falcon
A collector active on Instagram, @NYCWATCHGUY lives in the Greatest City in the World (his words), New York, and works as a venture capitalist but at heart, he is a watch meme maker. His many talents inspired him to a hobby we can all relate to; collecting watches. His journey started out traditionally but led him to more out there' watches. His Urwerk UR-220 Falcon is not the first watch of the brand to be featured in the Collector's Series, but clearly is one of the most impressive.Frank Geelen, MONOCHROME – How did you find out about Urwerk? Ad - Scroll to continue with article @NYCWATCHGUY – I definitely came across Urwerk casually on watch blogs in the early days of my watch collecting journey (around 2012). I always thought they were cool, but as someone who just owned a starter Zenith at the time (and the state of my bank account), making the
Book Chronographs for collectors by Joel Pynson and Sebastian Chaulmontet - Monochrome Watches
Today, we have something different for you, as we would like to share a very interesting book, written by Jo?l Pynson and Sebastian Chaulmontet (the man behind Arnold & Son and Angelus), named Chronographs for Collectors. The authors conducted thorough research into the origins of the chronograph and 30 chronographs. Chronographs have always been among the most difficult movements to design, and a lot of technical skills are required to produce these watches. The 30 models selected are historical, and characteristic the period. For each watch, a synopsis of its history, expert opinion, an overview of similar models, and an assessment of rarity, price level, and technology. The authors aim to help collectors, to make knowledgeable buying-decisions about vintage chronographs.Did you know that the term “chronograph” goes back to a stopwach developed by Nicolas-Mathieu Rieussec in 1821, where a hand dropped ink on the dial to mark the start and the end of a time interval?
