The 2015 edition of the SIHH – Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie – is now behind us. As usual, it was an hectic week, full of novelties and horological sweetness. From all the brands exhibiting and all the watches we’ve seen, strapped, tested and photographed, we had to make our selection. 16 brands, more?than 50 main novelties versus a team of 7 passionate writers?with their own preferences and tastes. And the final result showed to you with a video. Here is Monochrome’s Best of the SIHH 2015.Don’t expect us to show you our 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc… preferred timepiece. The aim?of this video is only to share with?you some?beautiful images of the most striking watches we’ve seen at the SIHH 2015. This selection is large, as it goes from a 5.000 Euros world-timer to a 1 Million Euros tourbillon. The Petrolhead Corner: Auto Union Type 52 Schnellsportwagen
Ninety years in the making, Audi has done something extremely cool! They’ve taken a concept that was never brought to life and finally built it. It’s called the Auto Union Type 52 Schnellsportwagen, and it’s basically the wildest Autobahn cruiser you can ever imagine! It’s a bit of an exaggeration saying it was ’90 years in the making’ as they haven’t actually spent that long building the actual car. But, in reality, it has taken almost a century for the Type 52 to make it from an abandoned concept to an actual working and driving road car. The original idea for this, you ask? To create the most powerful, fastest and wildest sports car! And now, after all that time, they’ve just gone and built it!If you’re not familiar with Auto Union’s rather complex origin story, here’s a quick history lesson before we dive into this fabulous machine. Auto Union is pretty much the coming together of several other German car manufacture
Longines Legend Diver Black PVD with new movement - Baselworld 2018 (Specs)
For Baselworld 2018, Longines brings a few updates to one of its most iconic modern watches, the Legend Diver. Not only is now comes with a new and more performant movement, but mainly, it now available in full black – case, dial, strap. And while, here at MONOCHROME, we’re usually not huge fans of full black watches, this new Longines Legend Diver Black PVD has quite some appeal. The basics are still the same: a vintage-inspired dive watch with compressor-style case, designed after a legendary 1960s watch, with internal rotating bezel and two crowns on the right side of the case. The watch retains its lacquered black dial, its signature indexes and hands, its 300m water resistance and its overall very cool look. Ad - Scroll to continue with article What’s new then? First and foremost, the 42mm case of the?Longines Legend Diver is now coated in
Hands-On - Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Moonshine Gold Green Dial
“The Speedmaster Moonwatch should be in stainless steel. Period. This is how NASA wanted it, this is how Omega created it, and this is how it went to the Moon.” This is the type of argument you can imagine hearing from the mouth of strongly opinionated Speedy fans. Fair enough, the Moonwatch is still very much available in this more common material, and it should make them happy enough. What if, on the other hand, you’d like to have the legendary look of the Speedmaster Moonwatch (understand the classic proportions, design and movement) with a touch of luxury, a touch of colour and a (fairly controlled) touch of bling? Well, since 1969, there are some gold editions of the emblematic space chronograph, and the brand continues this legacy with a truly handsome, highly desirable, not-that-bling Speedmaster Moonwatch Moonshine Gold and its cool green dial.?The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Master Chronometer Co-Axial, in steel, released in early 2021.We’v
Wempe Iron Walker - Steel Sports Watch Integrated Bracelet
There’s no denying the current trend for the luxury sports watch; stainless steel watches with shaped cases, relatively thin profiles, a combination of luxurious appeal and sturdiness and, most importantly, integrated bracelet/case design. In addition to the usual suspects (AP, PP and VC), we’ve seen multiple brands presenting their own (accomplished or not) vision of a luxury sports watch recently, in all price segments – from accessible to ultra-high-end. And today, there’s a new member from an unexpected brand… Meet the Wempe Iron Walker Collection, a new steel sports watch with an integrated bracelet.
