Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon
Originally designed as a time-and-date model when it was introduced in 1972, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak has since been offered with countless complications, including the most complex of them all, a grand complication. The tourbillon, an AP speciality is, of course, no stranger to the Royal Oak and was first used in the iconic luxury sports watch in 1997 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this model. Today, the latest evolution is revealed, this time with an automatic flying tourbillon movement, first launched in Code 11.59. Available in three versions, including a surprising titanium edition, here’s the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon 41mm.Looking at the current Royal Oak collection, you’ll notice that there is already a tourbillon model. Yet, this iteration of the RO is hand-wound, features an extra-thin movement and its tourbillon cage has a classic architecture, with bridges front and back. First Look: Hitting the Sweet Spot... The new Raymond Weil Millesime Small Seconds 35mm
Raymond Weil's Millesime collection, launched in 2024, is a charming retro-inspired family that has caught many a watch aficionado's eye. Injecting a new lease of life into a brand that was often overlooked, the Millesime family is out to conquer the market of neo-vintage dress watches with modern specifications. Coupled with competitive prices, the Millesime has positioned itself as a worthy contender in the dress watch category. After all, not everybody can afford Patek Philippe's latest Calatrava – the king of dress watches – that seduced more than a few members of the MONOCHROME team. Following in the successful wake of the larger 39.5mm Millesime Small Seconds, Raymond Weil launches a more compact 35mm case size. Inching closer and closer to perfect dress watch proportions, the Millesime Small Seconds 35mm might well hit the sweet spot.Founded in 1976, the brand is now in the hands of Raymond Weil's grandson, Elie Bernheim, the CEO behind the launch of the Millesime. Eric Clapton's Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph ref.2499 - Monochrome Watches
From time to time, there are articles written about our favorite topic, articles that are truly great and a must read. Ben Clymer, executive editor from Hodinkee, just wrote such an article. An article that shares great knowledge, interesting facts and passion all in one story.?This story is about the only platinum Patek Philippe ref. 2499, a perpetual calendar chronograph, that is in private hands. In the hands of nobody less that Eric Clapton, who is single-(slow)-handedly responsible for me starting to play guitar. By now most of my friends have forgiven him, so I’d like to highlight another passion we have in common… watches and in this case a particular watch he offers for sale at the upcoming Christies auction in Geneva. Ulysse Nardin Freak X Bucherer BLUE (Specs & Price)
The Freak is undoubtedly one of the most striking concepts of the 21st century (so far), and one of the most recognizable Ulysse Nardin watches ever. A concept watch made in series, it was also, back in 2001, a precursor in the field of silicon. Twenty years later, the concept is still alive, with the same innovative spirit and bold design. Bucherer has selected The Freak as its latest candidate for the Bucherer BLUE treatment and is based on the slightly more realistic Ulysse Nardin Freak X watch. An overview of an icon of modern watchmaking, the Bucherer way.A sneak peek at the FreakWe have to move back to 2001 to recast our minds to a totally different context operating in the watchmaking industry. Twenty years ago, the watchmaking industry was not what it is today. The independent scene barely existed and concept watches, UFOs to be worn on the wrist, watches with original displays and innovative movements, were almost non-existent; production was mostly concentrated on traditional
