The Collector's Corner: The GST Aquatimer 2000, IWC's 1990s Great Dive watch
A lot has been written about neo-vintage dress watches. It certainly makes sense – in the 1980s and 1990s, many watch manufactures embarked on a journey to relearn and rediscover the art and science of the complicated wristwatch. These watches were generally slim, cased in precious metals, and elegant. In looking at this segment of neo-vintage watches, however, I feel many collectors overlook the other end of the spectrum: the inventive and amazing sports watches that were launched during this time. In the inaugural article in The Collector's Corner, I wrote about the IWC Doppelchronograph reference 3711. Let's revisit 1990s IWC in this article and take a look at a watch that gives the Sea-Dweller a run for its money. Enter the IWC GST Aquatimer 2000. Water resistant to 2,000 meters? Check. Integrated bracelet? Check. Instant coolness? Oh yes, check indeed!?IWC is best known for its aviation-themed watches – so I think it's worth taking a closer look at the Schaffhausen c
Introducing Bulgari Octo Finissimo Rose Gold and Brown Dial Collection
We’re right in the middle of what has become an important watch event of the year, a casual, relaxed fair that takes in the capital of watchmaking: Geneva Watch Days. One of the main actors of this show is Bulgari, and among the novelties of the Italian brand in the Finissimo range, there is a rather impressive 8-day Skeleton Octo Finissimo. So here we are with the new rose gold and brown dial editions of the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Automatic and Chronograph GMT. And that also means the discontinuation of one of our favourite early Octo Finissimo models…The new discontinued Octo Finissimo Automatic in sandblasted goldAll new models in the record-breaking Octo Finissimo collection were launched, at first, in sandblasted titanium with a tone-on-tone dial. This discreet, industrial and monochromatic design has become a signature element of the collection, with a matte finishing that makes them unique. Still, more materials and colours have been used over the years, such as stai
Event - Details About The OAK Collection in London's Design Museum
As of today, the OAK collection, comprising no fewer than 160 wristwatches, can be admired in the Design Museum in London until May 25th. Yesterday we had an exclusive preview of the exhibition and the watches, and it’s impressive… to say the least! If you’re in London, and if you like wristwatches, you won’t regret spending a few hours learning about some of the rarest (some even unique) timepieces from Patek Philippe, , and several high-end Independent watchmakers.?When we asked Patrick Getreide, owner of some 600+ of the most beautiful, rare, and special wristwatches on the planet (we’re not exaggerating!), why he wanted to showcase a part of his collection in a museum, the answer was simple and straightforward. And also very recognizable! He considers watches to be art, so showcasing them in a museum feels like a natural thing, a logical thing to do. Experts from Patek Philippe and historian Nicholas Foulkes (among others) have been involved in select
Omega expands the Speedmaster 38mm collection with sparkling diamond-set versions - Monochrome Watches
The Speedmaster 38mm made its debut in 2017. Among the most popular iterations of this smaller Speedmaster is the Cappuccino in 18K Sedna? Gold, with horizontal brown oval subdials and vertical oval date window at 6 o'clock. This year, Omega expands the collection with 8 new sparkling versions set with diamonds and a choice of 2 dial colours. The luxurious setting of these new iterations includes a paved bezel (~1.5 carats), diamond-ringed subdials and a diamond-set crown. Eight new iterations of the Omega Speedmaster 38mm introduce a more luxurious and more glamourous twist to the model, slightly moving away from its sporty character by omitting the tachymeter bezel in favor of much larger stones. Among these, two versions come in 18K Sedna Gold featuring a chocolate brown PVD dial with horizontal silvery subdials, while another two are crafted in 18K Moonshine Gold, boasting a green PVD dial with similar subdials. Additionally, four new steel versions ar
