Hands-On - Bulgari Octo Tourbillon Sapphire Black-DLC Steel / Blue dial (Specs & Price)
As part of its pre-Baselworld 2018 collection, Bulgari unveils a new version of its Octo Tourbillon Sapphire, now with a black DLC steel case. In the dark, its tourbillon movement glows with a magical blue luminescence revealing its mechanics in complete transparency. Here's an advance hands-on look at this bold piece.Inspired by a modern and eminently personal vision of watchmaking, the bold Octo Tourbillon Sapphire plays with volumes, contrasting materials and color (with a style reminiscent of the brand's Magsonic design). The latest version of the model is presented in a case fashioned out of black DLC-coated steel?(diamond-like?carbon) and sapphire. Its original sandwich construction reveals its inner workings in full transparency to create a mechanical sculpture of gears, space, shadow and light. The middle part is made of sapphire allowing the light to pour in and magnify the openwork mechanical heart of the watch, which is dramatically enhanced with inserts crafted from blue Sup
The Collector's Series - Paul Maudsley of Phillips Watches about collecting vintage pieces - Monochrome Watches
You maybe were wondering why the Collector's Series hasn’t featured any vintage watches. Well, in truth, there is no reason. To rectify this, we sat down to?discuss who maybe an appropriate candidate?to?kick things off. The jury was unanimous: it had to be?someone with many years hands on?experience so we decided to ask our friend over Phillips Auctions, Mister Paul Maudsley, to introduce to us a watch of his own?collection, and surprisingly, it's just a vintage Doxa but certainly not just your just any vintage Doxa.Paul is International Specialist-Director at Phillips Auction House in London. For those unaware of it's pedigree, Phillips was founded in London in 1796 by Harry Phillips, formerly senior clerk to James Christie. During his first year of business, Phillips conducted twelve successful auctions and soon the business was holding sales for some of the most distinguished collectors of the day including Marie Antoinette, Beau Brummel and Napoleon Bonaparte. Despite its ext
Patek Philippe Chronograph Annual Calendar Steel 5905/1A
The annual calendar chronograph is one of the most fascinating yet rarest combinations in the industry, as we’ve experienced in this in-depth article. And one brand in particular does it better than the rest of the bunch, and that is Patek Philippe. For a good reason, since the brand invented the annual calendar function back in 1996. Now, there’s a rather large collection of watches using this unusual combination, and specifically the 5905 is often regarded as the most attractive model. Today, Patek launches a new, surprisingly sporty version of this watch with a steel case, a steel bracelet and an olive green dial, with the new Chronograph Annual Calendar 5905/1A.While on paper we’re certainly talking about just a new version of a watch that has been in production for some years now, this new iteration of the large Chronograph Annual Calendar, the reference 5905/1A, comes with some rather interesting attributes. Yes… steel case and bracelet, not something that
Pre-Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Calendar and Reverso Tribute Duo - the 85th anniversary editions - Monochrome Watches
When talking about iconic watches, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso will always come into the conversation because frankly, this watch is a proper historical monument. This iconic watch?was created in 1931… Meaning that 2016 will be its 85th anniversary, a jubilee that Jaeger-LeCoultre will celebrate by introducing several new editions, including two “Tribute” ones. Here are the?Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Calendar and Reverso Tribute Duo (and the rest of the novelties to follow later this week). The first of the SIHH-2016 novelties is the Jaeger-LeCoultre?Reverso Tribute Duo. Behind the name “Tribute”, Jeager-Lecoultre intends to create watches faithful to the early editions manufactured?in?1931 and the following years. The best example of this sub-collection was the Reverso Ultra-Thin Tribute to 1931, an edition almost identical to the very first Reverso created and that even our own editor-in-chief owns for a few years now (just to say that, yes, itR
Introducing 2 new Vacheron Constantin Malte, the Malte Moon Phase and Power Reserve & Malte Tourbillon Openworked in pink gold - Monochrome Watches
Vacheron Constantin, a manufacture nearly as old as the concept of Swiss watchmaking (260 years of continuous activity… no less), is also a sort of father for?the?barrel-shaped watches known as tonneau cases, a now popular shape that they introduced first in their collection in 1912. This style, strongly inspired by?Art-Deco spirit, is both extremely traditional?and far from the classical round cases, giving it a certain “old elegance”. This is expressed in the collection with the?Vacheron Constantin Malte, which, this years, receives two new iteration, the?Malte Tourbillon Openworked now in pink gold and the brand new?Malte Moon Phase and Power Reserve. The?Vacheron Constantin Malte Moon Phase and Power ReserveThe first of the two is a proper novelty, as until now, the Vacheron Constantin Malte only had a small second version or highly?precious?tourbillons. This year, VC adds a interesting edition, with just the right amount of complication to be attractive but to sta
