Introducing Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Starwheel 15212NB
Wandering hours are one of the most fascinating displays of the watch industry. And if it’s often associated with modern indie watchmakers like Urwerk or with Audemars Piguet, it is actually a very old concept dating back to the 17th century. Yet, if the paternity of the system is far older than many would think, Audemars Piguet is often seen as the resurrector of the concept, with a famous watch born in 1991, the Starwheel. And this emblematic display, which has long been out of the collection, is now back in a bolder, more modern attire. Meet the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Starwheel. The wandering hour of the past, and StarwheelThe wandering hour system can be traced back to the 17th century (most likely in 1655) following a special request from Pope Alexander VII. Suffering from insomnia that was aggravated by the ticking of a clock, he ordered a night clock from the Campani brothers, with the request for?a clock that would be silent and easy to read in the dark. The result
Bulgari Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater Rose Gold // Introducing, Price
While the time-only automatic model, the shockingly thin tourbillon automatic and the recently presented chronograph have been at centre stage in the Octo Finissimo collection, we shouldn’t forget one of the earliest watches presented in this saga of world records… The Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater. First introduced in matte titanium, and followed by a bold carbon edition, a new version has been presented at the LVMH Watch Week, a luxurious and warm rose gold model. Quick look.We might repeat ourselves, but Bvlgari has all the attributes of a legitimate high-end, highly respectable watchmaker. Don’t be fooled by its history in jewellery and fashion-oriented watches. Since the acquisition of Daniel Roth and Gerald Genta, the brand has engaged in a long-term strategy to become one of the most important watchmakers on the scene – without forgetting its innate Italian design codes. The way to achieve this seemed simple (on paper), creating some of the thinn
Hands-on with the Montblanc Heritage Spirit Perpetual Calendar with Sapphire Dial (Photos, Price and Specs) - Monochrome Watches
At the 2014 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) Montblanc surprised us all with the introduction of a perpetual calendar that was priced rather?competitively. With perfect classical design,?it looked just like a million bucks, while its price starts at around € 10,000 Euro for the stainless steel version. With that price tag it was simply the most affordable perpetual calendar on the market today. In 18K red gold it is around €17k Euros and now there’s a new version, again in red gold, however with a new dial. That new dial is made of smoked?sapphire crystal it looks absolutely awesome. Let’s have a closer look at the Montblanc Heritage Spirit Perpetual Calendar with Sapphire Crystal Dial. The new Perpetual Calendar with sapphire crystal dial is technically exactly the same as the other models, however every gear, lever, cam, etc is visible for everyone to see (and learn from!). The smoked sapphire crystal dial also shows just how modern a classically styled pe
Introducing the Blancpain Villeret Chronographe Pulsometre - Monochrome Watches
At the Baselworld watch fair, earlier this year, Blancpain introduced an new in-house chronograph movement, with a fly-back function and a silicon balance spring that vibrates at a high frequency of 5Hz or 36,000 vph. After introducing it in the Bathyscaphe Chronograph Flyback, Blancpain’s new in-house calibre F385 is now available in the classic looking Blancpain Villeret Chronographe Pulsometre. Despite its classic looks, Blancpain’s Villeret Chronographe Pulsometre comes in a rather large 43.6 mm red gold case. Its?cambered white Grand Feu enamel dial is surrounded by a pulsometer scale and features?enamel-painted Roman numerals, except at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions. The brand’s name and logo appear on the upper half of the dial, while the lower half features the date window and the connotation “Flyback”. Left and right of the centre are the chronograph 30-minute and 12-hour counters. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
