Ulysse Nardin Classic Perpetual Ludwig (Specs & Price)
Today we are taking a closer look at one of the most refined and streamlined Perpetual Calendars on the market, the Ulysse Nardin Classic Perpetual Ludwig. Named after the man largely responsible for the original watch some 20 years ago, Dr. Ludwig Oechslin, this modern-day tribute is nothing short of exceptional. Easy to set and even easier to read, this complicated watch helped pioneer a new way of thinking about Perpetual Calendars. Read on to learn what makes it so special. To say that Dr. Ludwig Oechslin is a gifted creator of complications is a gross understatement of the man's incredible talents. Associated with Ulysse Nardin for many years, his was the creative genius that developed the Freak, the Trilogy of Time collection (a trio of watches named Astrolabium Galileo Galilei, Planetarium Copernicus and Tellurium Johannes Kepler), and of course the Perpetual Calendar he created for the brand in 1996 to celebrate its 150th anniversary. He was also heavily involved in creation of
Buying Guide - 4 New Uber-Complex Chronograph Watches of 2022
The idea of this article came to life after our first encounter with the new MB&F Legacy Sequential EVO a few weeks ago. Looking at this ultra-complex, yet impressively intuitive and pragmatic chronograph – that was officially launched today – made us look back at the new chronograph watches in 2022. And this is how we discovered that, indeed, there are some rather impressive models lurking in stopwatch territory. A classic chronograph is designed to time an event; these chronographs, however, do far more than that. They either improve the technical characteristics drastically or have entirely new ways of displaying elapsed times – or everything at once! Yes, the chronograph is still one of the top complications, and it’s here to stay!Basically, a chronograph is a watch equipped with an additional feature that can measure elapsed times. A stopwatch, if you prefer. The duration of an event can be timed, on demand, with extra hands placed on the dial, which ca
Ulysse Nardin Blast Skeleton Tourbillon - Introducing, Live Pics, Price
Ulysse Nardin unveils an even more radical take on its Skeleton Tourbillon with its latest Blast models. Today, during the Geneva Watch Days event, the brand releases four new supercharged Blast models with edgier, sharper cases meant to emulate the lines of stealth aircraft and a double X traversing the skeletonised dials. The latest arrivals – White Blast, Rose Gold Blast, Black Blast and Blue Blast – are a blast from the past and have poached design cues from the Skeleton Tourbillon and the Skeleton X, both members of UN's Executive Collection. For the first time in its history, the Skeleton Tourbillon collection is equipped with an automatic movement and a new platinum micro-rotor.Stealth fighter jetThe 45mm case of the Blast models might remind you of the Skeleton X Magma and the Skeleton Tourbillon models of the past, but with a meaner, badass attitude. The architecture is more aggressive with tessellated lugs and sharp lines to evoke the silhouette of stealth fighter
Panerai PAM00396 - Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT Ceramica - Monochrome Watches
There are those in the watchmaking community who hear the word Tourbillon' and immediately think of French nobility, sitting in a stuffy parlor, reading the time from a delicate porcelain-dialed watch (Marie Antoinette). Now, place that delicate 18th century escapement in Panerai watch. (Marie Antoinette, holding a machine gun, screaming LET THEM EAT LEAD!). Introducing the Panerai model PAM00396 - the Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT Ceramica. Ad - Scroll to continue with article There are essentially two kinds of people in the world: People who LIKE Panerai watches and people who DON'T. Shocking, but true, there are people out there?who think that the Panerai watch is a throwback to distant ancestors on the horological evolutionary time-line. To those folks the cases are bulky. The functions are simple. The movements are crude and worse bought-in. (Why can't all wa
Hands-On TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary Panda
In sports timing, few chronographs have compelling stories like the Heuer Carrera Chronograph. It was created sixty years ago and responded to changing tastes over time with numerous variations. The original Heuer Carrera Reference 2447 from 1963 looks as young as if it was born yesterday. Conceived by Jack Heuer and “designed for legible, accurate reading under any conditions,” produced by the company that made “nothing but stopwatches,” Carrera chronographs have since become iconic and responsible for how we look at and judge chronographs now. And Carrera is a great name, no matter what language you speak, so let us remember how Reference 2447, which was in the Heuer and TAG Heuer catalogues since the 1960s, got its historical identity – and status. It all started with the race Carrera Panamericana. Background – The 60th anniversary of the legendJack Heuer, in 1963 (on the right)The Carrera Panamericana in the 1950s was an open road, 3507 km car rac
