Hands-On A. Lange & Sohne Langematik Perpetual Limited Blue 2021
When A. Lange & Sohne unveiled the Langematik Perpetual in 2001, it was the first mechanical wristwatch to combine a perpetual calendar with Lange's signature outsize date. Revisited in different case materials over the years, the 20th anniversary of the Langematik Perpetual is celebrated with two models, one in white gold the other in pink gold, both with a striking blue dial and limited to 50 pieces each.Just seven years after Lange's resuscitation in 1994, the Saxon watchmaker launched one of the finest perpetual calendars on the scene today. Flexing its horological muscles, Lange's perpetual calendar stands out from other calendar watches with its patented zero-reset mechanism and corrector to advance all the calendar displays simultaneously. The perpetual calendar functions account for the different durations of the months, including leap years and, once the watch is correctly set and kept ticking, you won't have to adjust the date display until 2100. IN DEPTH: The Omega Flightmaster - The Special One - Monochrome Watches
The recent announcement of the revamped Speedmaster MkII from Omega seems to highlight a return to the company's glorious past- and rightly so, in my honest opinion, since Omega has a large number of design gems in its vaults. However, it was the introduction of the Z-33 spacemaster that made me want to dig some more and present to you the highly radical Flightmaster, a watch that, when it was introduced in 1969, was considered way ahead of its time. Maybe it still is….The 1960’s undoubtedly were hugely important for the Swiss watch industry; this was a memorable decade for chronographs and the other “tool” watches. The watch became the symbol of the adventurous human spirit, being worn by drivers and their crews when they went racing; by pilots as they broke speed and altitude records; by international travelers as they crossed the time zones of the world; by divers doing underwater exploration; by the adventurers as they climbed the tallest peaks. Especially i
The Hands of Time - A Guide to Names of the most used Watch Hands - Monochrome Watches
There are many ways to tell the time: digital watches show us the time using numbers, whereas the first mechanical clocks did not even have faces, and indicated time by chiming it. Hourglasses, candle clocks or clepsydras are other examples. And there’s a segment that we here at Monochrome, refer to as ‘Other Display‘, which include the URWERK’s MB&F’s and Ressence’s of this world. Still, most watches use hands on a dial to show us the hours and minutes, and as is their wont, watchmakers have displayed great creativity in the way they shape hands (for practical or more fancy purposes). These come in a variety of styles and are an integral part of a watch design. It would be tough to come up with an exhaustive list, but we'll take a look at the most used hand designs from watches we have photographed over the past few months.Alpha handsAlpha type hands have a wide base and a narrow stem to connect them to the center of the dial. Pre-Baselworld 2017 - Frederique Constant Classic Worldtimer Manufacture Brown Dial - Monochrome Watches
We told you several times, the Word-Time complication is certainly the best answer to the issues?of current business habits. Many of us are frequent travelers or work in an international environment, switching timezones (virtually or literally) more often?than we?change shirt. The need for a watch that displays multiple time-zones has never been so high. However, as we’ve seen, World-Time watches can go from quite accessible to insanely expensive. For that,?Frederique Constant has a nice offer, affordable for sure, but also full of technical content (in-house movement and module, interesting way to adjust…); the?Classic Worldtimer Manufacture. Never before we h
Patek Philippe 5320g Perpetual Calendar - Review (Specs & Price)
At Baselworld this year, Patek Philippe once again introduced a surprising watch, a piece with a unique look and a clear vintage inspiration – without mentioning a case to die for. For a few years now, Patek?has accustomed us with a certain creativity, with watches that go out of the brand’s comfort zone (see for instance the controversial Calatrava Pilot 5524 or the Annual Calendar 5960A in steel). The?5320g Perpetual Calendar is amongst these special watches, even if here, it?prompted a unanimously positive response. Today, we take a closer look at this vintage/military-inspired piece and also to the different watches that inspired its creation.Various vintage inspiration to create a unique watchBefore looking at the?Patek Philippe 5320g Perpetual Calendar in detail, we have to understand where it comes from.
