Longines DolceVita Sector Dial - Monochrome Watches
In recent times Longines has been on a bit of a roll when it comes to rather cool yet affordable vintage-inspired watches. That's not a real surprise considering the extensive history of the brand. After all, it dates back to 1832 so there's plenty of historically relevant pieces to choose from. And even though the DolceVita has perhaps not been the most popular range in the Longines portfolio, adding a sector dial in the mix seriously ups the cool factor. So far this year we have seen a whole selection of attractive, retro-inspired watches by the winged-hourglass brand. There's several new Longines Legend Diver's available and of course new models in the Spirit collection. Another example is the very handsome Longines Heritage Classic in several color combinations. And of course, we have the Heritage Silver Arrow?and the surprisingly funky Avigation BigEye in titanium with a degrade blue dial. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
Louis Erard Excellence Petite Seconde Stone Dials 2022 - Hands-On
For somebody looking for a watch with design flair and plenty of originality that won't break the bank, Louis Erard is a brand worth exploring. Always on the hunt for new ideas, Louis Erard has worked with many watchmakers and designers to create imaginative, original watches that also happen to be affordable. The latest project involves three Petite Seconde models from the Excellence collection with malachite, aventurine and lapis lazuli dials.Instead of trying to dream up new models from scratch, Louis Erard reached out to renowned watchmakers and designers to give their unique interpretations of some of the brand’s classic models, like the Reglateur. And sure enough, the brand started to gain traction and visibility with big-name collaborations like Alain Silberstein, Vianney Halter and Eric Giroud. Consolidating the new direction, the brand called in industry consultant Manuel Emch, former CEO of Jaquet Droz and Romain Jerome, for an assessment. The idea, according to Emch, w
Introducing: Steel-and-Gold and Gradient Dials for the Longines Spirit Flyback
Presented last year by Longines as the flagship model in its recent pilot-oriented collection, the Spirit Flyback paid tribute to an important function for the brand, the retour-en-vol chronograph. While the authorship of the flyback complication is a topic that is still discussed, the winged hourglass brand produced its first model equipped with a flyback function in 1925, then filed a patent which was registered on 16 June 1936. As the top of the range model in the Spirit collection, this large and higher-end chronograph now comes back in two warm and luxurious versions, mixing steel and gold, with green or brown tones.?Just like the?Spirit Zulu Time has to be seen as the bigger brother of the classic 3-hand models, the same could be said about the Spirit Flyback next to the classic automatic chronograph. A sportier take on the brand’s vision of a classic, highly precise pilot’s watch, this 42mm model features an external rotating bezel, something that the classic chronog
Ressence Type 3, The Oil-Filled Watch That Goes Beyond Hands - Monochrome Watches
When it comes to unique displays of the time, you probably thought you’ve already seen everything: wandering hours, chains, magnetic balls, liquid-filled capillary, rotating prisms… Same goes in terms of complications and construction?of the overall watch. Well, think again. The?Ressence Type 3 features both a highly unusual display and an almost unique construction. Certainly, the Type 3 doesn’t have the visual?flamboyance?of a MB&F, the bold high-tech design of an URWERK or the apparent complexity of a HYT. However, underneath this restrained facade?hides a watch filled with oil and which does not use hands to display the time. And that makes the?Ressence Type 3 very special to us.An oil-filled watch? A bit of backgroundSorry? How can a watch be filled with oil? The idea of filling the case of a watch with oil is not new, and not exclusive to Ressence – although admittedly this was never a popular feature… at least not until 2013, when Ressence intro
The brand new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Automatic 4500V - Monochrome Watches
In the new Overseas Collection, Vacheron introduced the highly desirable ultra-thin edition of the Vacheron Constantin Overseas. This watch clearly brings back VC where it deserves to be, in the top 3 of the luxury sports watches. However, there’s a major issue with the ultra-thin edition: it is rather expensive and not every collector will have pockets large enough to afford it. No worries, if you intend to buy a time-only Overseas, Vacheron-Constantin also has another solution, more affordable and not void of interest (at all). Here is the?brand new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Automatic 4500V, with its stainless steel case (but also a pink gold option) and all new in-house movement.Don’t consider the?Vacheron Constantin Overseas Automatic 4500V as the poor-man Overseas. Consider it at the classical offer and imagine the ultra-thin edition as the luxurious one. In fact, this edition replaces the actual time-only Overseas that we know for several years now – and look
