Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso with Red Lacquered Dial fetches record price - Monochrome Watches
Jaeger-LeCoultre watches hit record prices at?Antiquorum auction in Geneva, that was held last week. One that particularly tickled us, is the stainless steel Reverso with red lacquer dial. It was sold for CHF 50,000 !!?This Reverso with red lacquered dial is the predecessor of this years JLC novelty, the new Grande Reverso Tribute to 1931 Rouge. Last year the French auction house Artcurial sold a Reverso with red lacquered dial for € 28,000 Euro and another was sold for CHF 35,000 in May last year by Antoquorum. Ad - Scroll to continue with article It looks like vintage models of the JLC Reverso are seriously gaining value and I’m curious whether this rise is lasting. Of course vintage Sports models and Patek Philippe complicated watches are a sure thing for fetching extreme high prices. This seems quite restricted to these brands, like the same Antiquor
Tudor Predictions 2024 - The Potential Return of the Tudor Oysterdate Big Block
A few days ago, the MONOCHROME team delivered our yearly forecast of potential launches for the 2024 Collection. As always, we try our best to guess what the Crown will be presenting at the watch industry’s largest fair, Watches and Wonders. While trying to imagine and design these potential models, we also started to think about its sister brand, Tudor. This year, we’ve had intriguing snippets of evidence about what could be the main new model to be released by the brand in April 2024… A mix of a unique piece presented for Only Watch and an unexpected return of Tudor to motorsports?as the partner of Visa Cash App RB Formula 1 Team, which made us realise that it could well be the year of the return of the Tudor Oysterdate Big Block Chronograph.?Brands like and Tudor don’t do things without a commercial reason. Brands of such stature don’t get involved in multi-million partnerships with a Formula 1 team without a commercial goal. There is, without a d
Comparative 3 Modern Worldtimer Watches from Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Montblanc - Monochrome Watches
In this day and age the worldtimer is likely to be one of the most useful complications to be found in a mechanical timepiece. When?Marshall McLuhan, a Canadian professor and philosopher of?communication theory,?wrote ‘The Gutenberg Galaxy: The Making of Typographic Man’ in 1962, not many could have foreseen how McLuhan’s description of the “Global Village” would became reality. Yet, today we live in that reality as McLuhan described, ‘the globe has been contracted into a village by electronic technology’. Hence the need to know the time in various time zones of our world, at a?glance. Of course we could focus on a pluralism of devices that indicate time in more time zones, however here on Monochrome we focus on the most beautiful mechanical timepieces, and thus we have a closer look at three recent worldtimers, from three brands, which all share a design feat, namely a world map on the dial. Here are the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Worl
Raymond Weil Also Announced Leaving Baselworld in 2019 - Monochrome Watches
The?haemorrhage continues for Baselworld, as another mainstream brand has just announced its departure in 2019. According to the Swiss newspaper Le Temps (here, in French), Raymond Weil, which was exhibiting in Hall 1.0 (where all the big brands are located), won’t be present at Baselworld 2019. After Swatch Group took the lead earlier this year by announcing to leave the show, this piece of news sounds like another frontal attack on MCH, the company that owns Baselworld. In all fairness, the impact of?Raymond Weil leaving Baselworld is not the same as Swatch Group announcing its departure from the show. Certainly, Raymond Weil is a smaller brand, which produces around 150,000 watches, priced between CHF 800 and CHF 3,000. Nothing compared to the 18 brands of Swatch Group, its CHF 8 billion turnover and mainly, the CHF 50 million invested by the Group for the Baselworld week. According to its CEO Elie Bernheim, Raymond Weil spends over CHF 1 million in order to exhibit in Basel. T
The New Worldtimer Watches of Patek Philippe for 2022 - Monochrome Watches
With a history spanning over 80 years (and the famous Cottier watches), Worldtimers?are among?Patek Philippe's most popular complications. Patek was the brand to bring back this type of watches in 2000 with the launch of the 5110. The 5110 was replaced in 2006 by the 5130, itself replaced by the 5230 in 2016. On the occasion of Watches and Wonders 2022, the travel watch collection welcomes three new interpretations of existing models. The Blue Guilloche Platinum 5230P-001For the first time, Patek Philippe is interpreting the emblematic 5230 in a platinum case combined with a blue dial and strap. The dial center is adorned with a new circular hand-guilloche motif. Inside the watch is the fine and well-known Calibre 240HU (HU= Heure Universelle). This 27.50mm automatic movement features an off-center 22K gold micro-rotor, allowing a height below 3.9mm. It runs at 3Hz with 48 hours of power reserve. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
