First Look: The New Furlan Marri Disco Volante Collection
Co-founded by Swiss industrial designer Andrea Furlan and watch collector Hamad Al Marri, Furlan Marri launched on Kickstarter in 2021 with a beautifully designed vintage chronograph powered by a hybrid mecha-quartz engine. The next act, in 2022, was an equally handsome vintage black sector dial equipped with a mechanical movement that won over the MONOCHROME team. Today, Furlan Marri sticks to its vintage designs and mechanical guns and releases a trilogy of Disco Volante models in 38mm cases with manual-winding Peseux movements. The Disco Volante or Flying Saucer watch design has been kicking around since the late 1930s, an Art Deco meets futuristic space-age watch featured in the catalogues of many top-tier brands. The classic traits of the Disco Volante – manifested in models from Omega, Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe, Cartier and Universal Geneve, all the way down the decades to Gerald Genta's 1953 design (ref. 5093) for Audemars Piguet – are round cases, an absenc
Buying Guide - Best Luxury Watches With Interchangeable Bracelet/Strap
We all know that a watch is probably a man’s most important accessory (along with his wedding ring). It reflects his personality, his way of life, it must comply with the situation and his wardrobe. There are, of course, no rules but you’ll admit that a dive watch won’t be the best option for a night at the opera. The solution to that (non)problem: having a watch for every situation… Or, having a versatile watch that can change personality by just changing its metallic bracelet for an alligator leather strap. Convenient, isn’t it? If that’s something you want to experience, we have found four extremely good watches that are delivered with more than one style of bracelet/strap.Note: this selection is based on the preferences of MONOCHROME’s editors. If you have other models in mind that would fall in this category of watches, feel free to share them with us in the comment box.Cartier Santos Large ModelIn 2018, Cartier revamped one of its most ic

The problem has really come to the fore when scientists discovered that much of the fish we eat contains toxic chemicals from the microplastics they have consumed. Pacific Garbage Screening has developed an innovative floating platform that will act much like a giant sieve collecting plastic waste from rivers, estuaries and the ocean. Can we have it all? Piaget Emperador Coussin XL Tourbillon - Monochrome Watches
It is human nature to want it all, to want something better. It is this emotion that fuels ambition, is the thriving force behind development and in essence the reason why we continue to push the envelope. But sometimes there are quite a bit of boundaries between what we want and what is possible. The answer to that? Make it possible! It is what got us on the moon and how Piaget was able to give us the Emperador Coussin XL tourbillon. The funny thing with this Piaget Tourbillon is that it is not so much what they achieved but how they did it. Of course a 5.5 mm thick automatic tourbillon movement is very impressive, especially when you are able to house it in a case so that the total thickness of the watch is only 10.4 mm, but that is only part of the charm of this watch. The real thrill is that Piaget achieved all this by, or perhaps because, putting the main features on the dial side of the watch! Ad - Scroll to continue with article
