One of them is the cool-looking Vintage, a more classical round watch, still with military/tool inspiration but more casual. At Baselworld 2019, the br
Five independent watchmakers that got rid of the conventional crown
The humble little crown. At first glance, it doesn't look all that impressive. Each watch has one, right? And they all pretty much do the same: wind and set a watch. Sure, it can look a little different from brand to brand and watch to watch but today's crown system remains fairly unchanged for almost 180 years. There are watchmakers, however, who seek to get rid of this protruding little knob that digs into your wrist every now and then, possibly causing you discomfort. With that in mind, we take a look at five watches that offer a different solution to the age-old conventional crown. The history of the crown on today's watches can be traced back to John Arnold, who first developed a crown for winding and setting a watch. Over time this was perfected by illustrious watchmakers like Abraham-Louis Breguet and Louis Audemars. Getting mileage from a rallyAs the co-president of Chopard, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele obviously has a soft spot for mechanical watches. But his passion for larger engines in the form of vintage automobiles verges on obsession. As a collector of vintage cars, a racer and sponsor of two of the most prestigious classic car racing events (Mille Mi
Driving Porsche 911 & 718 Cayman with the Porsche Design 1919 Chronotimer All Titanium on the wrist - Monochrome Watches
Ever since Porsche Design has taken matters more into its own hands, after relying for decades on other watch companies to build watches for them, I'm warming up to the collection even more than before. I've always been a bit of a fan of what these Germans, related to that eponymous car brand, have been doing in the world of watches. The very first titanium chronograph, the very first black wristwatch, and even a watch with a built-in compass. I love it. When Porsche Design launched the 1919 Chronotimer, this time assembled in-house in Solothurn, Switzerland, we immediately asked to do a review of the Porsche Design 1919 Chronotimer on the black rubber strap. Recently I've had the good fortune (read on to find out why) to do another review of that watch, now on the titanium bracelet. It's always hard to explain to friends that, oh sigh, I'm going on yet another trip. Especially when visiting the Formula 1 in Monaco, the America’s Cup in Bermuda, the World Rally Championship in Sar

On the occasion of Watches and Wonders 2022, the travel watch collection welcomes three new interpretations of existing models. The Blue Guilloche Platinum 5230P-001For the first time, Patek Philippe is interpreting the emblematic 5230 in a platinum case combined with a blue dial and strap. The dial center is adorned with a new circular hand-guilloche motif. Inside the watch is the fine and well-known Calibre 240HU (HU= Heure Universelle). This 27.50mm automatic movement features an off-center 22K gold micro-rotor, allowing a height below 3.9mm. It runs at 3Hz with 48 hours of power reserve. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
