News: Universal Geneve Teases its 2026 Return, with Three 70th Anniversary Polerouter SAS Tribute Watches
The Polerouter is, without a doubt, one of the most emblematic watches ever created by Universal Geneve. Not only was it designed by young Gerald Genta, but it was powered by an important micro-rotor movement and was a purpose-built watch created by request of SAS, asking Universal Geneve to create a watch that could support pilots flying over the North Pole for the first time – which occurred exactly 70 years ago, on November 15, 1954. Now, you're certainly aware that, under the guidance of Georges Kern (CEO of Breitling), together with private investment firms Partners Group and CVC Capital Partners, Universal Geneve will be back soon. But before we see what the brand has to offer (in 2026), here's a tribute to the Polerouter SAS Watches. Three faithful recreations with historic micro-rotor movements, each a unique piece, one of which will be auctioned Are we seeing here a draft for future models to come? This will remain a question for now.?A quick recap about the Universal Ge
IWC Big Pilot's Watch Edition Right-Hander IW501012 (Specs & Price)
Because 90% of the population is right-handed, there’s a convention that watches have to be worn on the left wrist… And that explains why the crown is positioned at 3 o’clock (on most watches, of course). There are exceptions to the rule, though, with so-called “right-hander” or “lefty” watches. Not so common, practical for left-handers and cool for others! Hence the raison d’¨ºtre of IWC‘s latest limited edition of its iconic pilot’s watch, the Big Pilot’s Watch Edition Right-Hander IW501012.This new Big Pilot’s Watch IW501012, limited to 250 pieces, takes most of the attributes of the classic Big Pilot and adds a certain dose of cool to the package… but also a great sense of practicality. Why, you ask? Well, in my case (with my small, 16.5cm wrist), the IWC Big Pilot’s is pretty uncomfortable, simply because the sharp diamond-shaped crown hurts me – due to both the size of the watch and its weigh
Introducing: Habring2 Gets Lightning Smart With The Chrono-Felix Top Second
The independent watchmaking duo formed by Richard and Maria Habring, working under the Habring2 name, are close to our hearts for various reasons. First, as you’re probably well aware, because of our first-ever Montre de Souscription and the unique piece we auctioned for charity earlier in the year. Besides that, and probably far more relevant for you all, is the fact Habring2 does things in a very cool, original way. Renowned for the split-seconds chronographs based on the Valjoux 7750 architecture, developed by Richard Habring while working for IWC in the 1990s, the brand is capable of much more. They also like to play around with the seconds indication, as it is one of the few brands to offer both a Jumping Seconds and a high-speed Foudroyante seconds complication. Habring2 now adds a third second-based indication to the collection with the new Chrono-Felix Top Second.?The new Chrono-Felix Top Second next to Erwin shares a similar retro-military look. Before we get into the det
SIHH 2019 - Montblanc Heritage Manufacture Perpetual Calendar LE100 (Specs & Price)
For the SIHH 2019, Montblanc introduces a completely revamped “Heritage” collection. Hardly a newcomer, the Heritage collection already houses models such as the Heritage Spirit Pulsograph?or the?Heritage Perpetual Calendar. The latter became the talking piece at the SIHH 2014, positioning itself at that time as the most affordable QP on the market. Having a redesigned collection is one thing, but Montblanc has decided to give this watch something extra: the brand’s first manufacture perpetual calendar movement. Meet the new?Montblanc Heritage Manufacture Perpetual Calendar LE100.Inspired by vintage Minerva watchesNo debate… the design of the new?Montblanc Heritage is vintage to the core. By looking at the rich Minerva archives (Minerva is now owned by MB), the brand resurrects some of the glorious design elements found on these watches. Restrained proportions, elegant shapes, domed dials, two-tone colour schemes, applied dots and numerals, retro-styled hands
Montblanc TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph Pre-SIHH 2018 - Hands-On (Specs & Price)
Last year, at the SIHH 2017, Montblanc introduced their own vision of the sports watch, with a completely redesigned TimeWalker collection – guided by Mister Davide Cerrato, known for being quite good in designing such watches. Presented in several editions, from 3-hand to UTC chronograph, the collection is again evolving, not with new complications, but with an interesting movement and design upgrade. Here is the?Montblanc TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph, which introduces a new movement and a cool Panda-Style.The goal of the new?Montblanc TimeWalker collection was simple: to give the brand a powerful and consistent offer in the important field of sports watches, a market segment that for MB has never been very successful. The base used was the previous?TimeWalker line, an urbane and modern watch characterized by its originally shaped case (see an example here, showing the signature hollowed lugs), this watch never really was considered as a true sports watch.
