Introducing The Turquoise Audemars Royal Oak 37mm 15550BA
Audemars Piguet was famous for its use of stones in the 1960s and the 1990s, with dials made from lapis lazuli, aventurine, garnet, mother-of-pearl, opal, ruby, amethyst and other stones. Turquoise is one of the oldest known stones, as Egyptian and Chinese civilizations used it over 3000 years ago. It here finds its place in the collection for its unique colour and spiritual qualities. The new Royal Oak Selfwinding 37mm 15550BA in 18k yellow gold with a dial cut from a turquoise stone is the first to offer this combination of materials and is another addition to the very few “no-tapisserie” Royal Oak watches. The versatile, mid-size 37mm versions of the Royal Oak collection were added to the series only in 2012 but were updated last year, in line with the design evolution of the brand from Le Brassus –?released to mark the 50th anniversary of its omni-important model, created by Gerald Genta in 1972. The new generation of 37mm Royal Oaks got a slimmer case, down from 9
Hands-On - Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 34mm Black Ceramic 77350CE
The sleek, elegant and versatile vibe of the 34mm black ceramic Royal Oak Selfwinding could be seen as the equivalent of a little black dress or, for that matter, a smart black shirt for gentlemen who prefer smaller watches. The Royal Oak Selfwinding 34mm made its debut in 2021 and marked the first time a straightforward time-and-date RO got the full-ceramic look, a treat formerly reserved for complicated Audemars Piguet models. In light of the 50th-anniversary Royal Oak celebrations, the latest 34m Royal Oak Selfwinding 77350CE?reveals some of the subtle design updates that have been applied and will be applied to the permanent collection throughout 2022.Smaller dimensions and ceramic CaseThe first 34mm Royal Oak Selfwinding appeared in 2020 and was a breath of fresh air for women or men with small wrists who didn't want to settle for the 33m quartz-powered Royal Oak. Fitted with an automatic calibre made by Vaucher, the news that the 34mm time-and-date was going to be the first uncom
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph Frosted Gold Purple - Review, Price
You are all familiar with the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, with its history, and its multiple manifestations but the model we have for our hands-on session today is going to elicit some very extreme reactions, good and bad. Although there is nothing novel under the hood or structurally about this Royal Oak chronograph, this is a very particular piece and as such is a limited edition of 200 pieces. What we're looking at here today - and coming to terms with - is a 41mm Royal Oak chronograph with a frosted white gold case and a loud purple dial. Hate it or love it, let's get to know it a little better.Born in the 1970s, the Royal Oak was a child of its timeLeading on from the flower power groove that marked the 1960s, the 1970s heralded a turbulent decade marked by student unrest, Vietnam, Watergate, the oil crisis, bell-bottoms, lava lamps, rock music and disco lights. However, for watch lovers, the most significant date of this decade is 1972, the year Gerald Genta's Royal Oak watch was
Hands-On - The New Oris Big Crown Calibre 473
Swiss brand Oris initiates 2023 with glad tidings and announces the advent of its tenth in-house developed movement, writing a new chapter in the life of its iconic Big Crown Pointer Date. The new calibre 473, based on the automatic calibre 400 introduced in 2020, boasts the same performance and resilience but is hand-wound and comes with an extra function. What makes it even better news for fans of the Holstein-based brand is that the movement makes its debut inside a Big Crown Pointer Date, an iconic model on Oris’s flightpath since 1938. Flaunting an almost perfect 38mm case size and a heavenly blue dial colour, this manual-winding Big Crown Pointer Date is destined for greatness.Mechanical BackgroundUlrich Herzog, the chairman of Oris, does not mince words when he describes the brand’s mission to “offer serious mechanical watches at fair prices in an industry that sometimes forgets that there are numerous people who would like to own a mechanical watch, but who st
Ma?tres du Temps - Chapter Two - Monochrome Watches
During Baselworld i had a meeting with Ma?tres du Temps. After a warm welcome, Margaret Pane (vice president of Ma?tres du Temps) showed us the movie that was made for Chapter Two. I can really recommend watching this movie (around 10 minutes) as it really captures the essence of this collaboration of the greatest minds of modern watchmaking. The movie has some details that the connaisseur will immediately understand. Like the hands of the church clock, these remind me of the hands of the Speake-Marin Picadilly. After having seen the movie mr. Steven Holzman, the founder and CEO of Ma?tres du Temps, showed us the new masterpiece, Chapter Two. The three master watchmakers who are responsable for Chapter Two are mr. Daniel Roth, mr. Peter Speake-Marin and mr. Roger Dubuis. Chapter Two has an 18K red gold case of 42mm wide, 58mm from lug to lug and is 18mm thick. It features 6 different sapphire crystals with anti reflection coating, three positioned at the front to display the main dial,
