Hands-On - A. Lange & Sohne 1815 Chronograph Pink Gold / Black Dial (Specs & Price)
The?A. Lange & Sohne 1815 Chronograph is far from being a new watch. Indeed, even if it was updated in 2015?with a new dial that actually?goes back to (almost) the original design of this watch, it is a well-known and well-established member of the collection. New animations were introduced at the SIHH 2018 and the?1815 Chronograph is now available in pink gold. A good enough reason to take a look back at this superb chronograph – and its stunning movement. What exactly is the?1815 Chronograph? To put it in down-to-earth terms, it is the “entry-level” chronograph in?A. Lange & Sohne’s collection and an almost “accessible” watch considering what you get for your money. I know I will sound provocative by talking this way about a €50k watch – and I’m doing this deliberately – but the reality is that this watch has an incredible quality/price ratio. Yes, it is a huge amount of money for a watch, but what a watch it is. However, l

Introducing Franck Muller 30th Anniversary Tribute Chronographs by Grail Watch
When considering Franck Muller’s watches, images of tonneau-shaped cases and flashy colours come to mind. But, looking back at the brand’s earliest days, there are some fascinating watches to explore. Just like early Daniel Roth models or early Roger Dubuis timepieces, some of the oldest Franck Muller watches are getting hotter and hotter and will probably be the next “big thing” in youngtimer watch collecting. Classic designs with an undeniable Patek vibe, handsome chronograph movements and refined details abound. And our friend Wei Koh of Revolution and Grail Watch seems to have an eye for this collection, which is about to be brought back to the market with a trio of stunning vintage-inspired and very legitimate models known as the Franck Muller 30th Anniversary Tribute Chronographs.Muller’s Early daysFranck Muller has not always been characterised by bold and audacious designs. A Technical Perspective - Understanding the Concept of the Multiple-Regulator Watches
The presence of one single heart is ingrained in our idea of biology and extended conceptually to watchmaking. In order to live – or to indicate the time accurately – one only needs a single beating heart. But there are a few creatures with multiple hearts. And more and more watches come with multiple regulators – for different reasons. It is time to understand what multiple regulating organs can add to a watch. The regulating organ of a watch is often considered as its heart. The energy stored in the barrel is released in discreet bursts by the regulator that defines the speed at which the watch runs. The regulator comprises the escapement and the balance wheel, two elements working in conjunction. The escapement gives impulses to the balance. In return, the escapement is regulated by the balance wheel. The vast majority of mechanical watches operate according to the same principle. One energy source, one gear-train and one regulator. Some watches, however, use multipl
Hands-On: The New TAG Heuer Carrera Skipper Chronograph
With 60 years of history behind its name, you can certainly expect the emblematic Carrera to have been offered in more than just a few editions. In fact, countless styles, movements and shapes have been used over the years. Some are, arguably, more iconic than others. In addition to the classic silver or panda dials found on the first-generation models, the brand has long been creative, releasing original dials such as the Montreal-inspired Carrera or, looking back at the 1960s, a version known to be one of the most collectable and most distinctive; the Carrera Skipper. The brightly-coloured, instantly recognizable regatta chronograph is back, 40 years after it disappeared from the collection.?The Heuer Carrera Skipper name refers to more than just one watch, however, a model in particular (which you can see below) surely defines the look of this watch. The Skipper has seen the light of day in 1968, and has been in production up until 1983. Although later versions of the Skipper used t
