SIHH 2014: Recap of all the A. Lange & Sohne novelties (with LOTS of photos) - Monochrome Watches
Apart from the Richard Lange Perpetual Calendar Terraluna we've presented you last Monday (see here) and the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase that you have discovered through Frank's hands-on (see here), A. Lange & Sohne revealed more new timepieces at the 2014 edition of the SIHH. Monochrome-Watches looks back on the new models of the Saxonian brand, and adds a LOAD of hands-on photos.1815 Tourbillon / 1815 (2014)The 1815 case is nothing new in the A. Lange & Sohne range, nor are the tourbillons. Is the 1815 Tourbillon boring? Not at all. It's a classic interpretation of the very legible and elegant 1815 design, which always features a lot of horological sweetness. The new 1815 Tourbillon features a large tourbillon, visible through an equally large aperture in the dial, and there’s more. New is a stop-seconds mechanism (also sometimes referred to as hack system) with a Zero-Reset function. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
The Search for a Forgotten Connaught Type D Syracuse GT and its Tiny V10 Engine - Monochrome Watches
Resurrection stories are surfacing quite frequently in the watch industry. Over the years we've seen Czapek, Airain, Vertex, and in a sense A. Lange & Sohne come back to life. The car industry is comparable, so every now and then, ambitious plans are announced to bring an illustrious manufacturer back from the dead. Today's episode of Petrolhead Corner is about one of those projects, which starts with a DriveTribe article covering a long lost prototype car carrying a unique engine! That initial story leads to a very long search for that very car, and with success! The car in question? A Connaught Type D Syracuse GT.Mike Fernie is Head of Video for DriveTribe and one of their most prolific contributors sharing a wide range of stories and videos on the website and YouTube channel. Perhaps you remember our recent coverage of the GMA T.50, the spiritual successor to the legendary McLaren F1, in where he interviewed Gordon Murray? 2021 Gerald Genta Arena Retrograde Mickey Mouse - Hands-on, Price
Visionary watchmaker and designer Gerald Genta left a legacy of iconic designs. As a pioneer of genre-defining sporty-chic models, Genta revolutionised the concept of the luxury sports watch with the creation of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. But the Genta legacy goes way beyond the luxury sports watches he designed for Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe or IWC. Alongside his collaborations with famous watch brands, Genta founded his company in 1969 to create watches under his own name. Genta was a rule-breaking designer with a fertile imagination. Among his countless creations are Grandes Complications and retrograde display watches with their original way to indicate the time. These included quirky Disney character watches with retrograde indications (he obtained licensing with Disney in the 1980s) For the 2021 edition of Geneva Watch Days, the Mickey watch is back! Meet the new Gerald Genta Arena Retrograde with Smiling Disney Mickey Mouse. Vintage Gerald Genta F
Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Regulator 5235R - Review, Specs & Price
When it was introduced in 2011, the Annual Calendar Regulator 5235G raised some eyebrows among Patek Philippe’s more conservative collectors. Associated with elegant, 3-hand dress watches, the Calatrava suddenly appeared with a complication and a most unusual dial inspired by historic regulator clocks - a first for a Patek Philippe wristwatch.?But there were more surprises, this time under the bonnet in the form of a brand new self-winding, ultra-thin movement (calibre 31260) designed specifically for this watch bristling with state-of-the-art Silinvar components and an unusual beat rate of 3.2Hz. The first 5235, which appeared in a white gold case with a silver/blue themed dial was discontinued and replaced in 2019 by this bolder rose gold model with a dark two-tone dial. Warmer, and more imposing than the colder and more technical white gold model, let's take a look at the latest Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Regulator 5235R, an unusual marriage of an annual calendar complicat
Eric Claptons Patek Philippe 5975R Chronograph 175th Anniversary For Sale - Monochrome Watches
While browsing on Instagram the other day, I noticed a post from the popular watch account @Patekaholic about a particular Patek Philippe posted through the portal website 1stdibs, which showcases various luxury items for sale to be posted to a wider audience. After clicking through to the website of the seller – Xupes – about the watch in question, the previous owner of the timepiece stood out immediately. It belonged to guitar legend and seasoned watch collector, Eric Clapton.Clapton is known to love timepieces, particularly and Patek Philippe. He even mentioned his love of Patek Philippe watches in his autobiography. He previously owned the only platinum Patek Philippe 2499 in private hands (the other example is in the Patek Philippe Museum), which sold at auction for US$3.6 million, a very rare Yacht-Master prototype based on a Daytona and a 6263 Daytona nicknamed “The Albino” due to its monochromatic white dial.
