SIHH vs. Baselworld - Monochrome Watches
One of the things that really amazed me this year was the lack of pre-releases before the Salon International de Haute Horlogerie (SIHH). Now the SIHH 2010 is almost finished, the pre-releases for Baselworld are already here! The only serieous SIHH pre-release?came from?Lange und Sohne. In December i already posted the?new Lange 1 Daymatic, which?instantly became my favorite Lange 1 and probably?my?favorite from this great manufacterer from Germany. After the SIHH started earlier this week, press releases about new models?all come at the same time. It’s impossible to cover them all, so i’ll show a few of my favorite models. One is another novelty of Lange und Sohne that is just so good i have to show it. For all new Lange und Sohne models, check out Perptuelle.com‘s overview.Last year A. Lange & Sohne’s Zeitwerk was one of the biggest hits of the SIHH novelties. This year Lange und Sohne comes with another surprise, the Zeitwerk Luminous. Or as the people at
Patek Philippe Nautilus 40th Anniversary Editions, including Platinum 3-hand 5711/1P and WG Chronograph 5976/1G (with price) - Monochrome Watches
40 years ago, Patek Philippe introduced a watch that has become an icon over the past 4 decades. This watch was designed by the legendary watch-designer?Gerald Genta. Inspired by the porthole, legend told it was?drawn on a restaurant table?in 5 minutes. It was the Nautilus ref. 3700, the first sports watch of the brand, which, in 1976, created the lineage, and which?is today celebrating its 40th anniversary. As expected, Patek Philippe is about to offer its collectors dedicated jubilee editions. And there won’t be one but two of these?Patek Philippe Nautilus 40th Anniversary Editions, including a platinum 3-hand 5711/1P and a white gold?Chronograph 5976/1G. However, we have to say that we were both excited and also a bit disappointed by these two, and here is why…Short history of the NautilusBack in 1972, another major brand, also part of the so-called “Holy Trinity” – the three Old Maisons of Swiss watchmaking?(Patek, VC and AP)?– introduced a brand
Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph Titanium, Tantalum, Gold
If you think about the Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph, apart from the classic steel and blue dial version, the one model that should immediately come to mind is the tri-metal edition, a bold statement created in 1993, being one of the rare watches to use tantalum, combined with titanium and gold. The result, often nicknamed “The Beast”, was clearly something demonstrative that became iconic in the Seamaster collection. And yes, this unique combination of materials is back, with the new Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph Titanium, Tantalum and Gold. Modernised, of course. The 1993 version of the tri-metal Seamaster 300m Chronograph – Photo by Fratello WatchesThe watch we’re looking at now was first released in 1993 – remember that, back in the early 1990s, mechanical watchmaking was barely back on track. The prospect of creating an automatic diving chronograph using not one but three different metals was quite something. While the first Seamaster Diver
Hands-On With The Titanium IWC Ingenieur Automatic 40
If you’re into watches, you’re most certainly aware of the comeback of the IWC Ingenieur… And I mean by that, the return to the beloved integrated style designed by Gerald Genta in 1976, not the slightly disappointing collection that has been available from 2016 to earlier this year. Not only the comeback of the integrated Ingenieur was one of the worst-kept secrets of the industry, but it’s also one of the most discussed launched of Watches and Wonders 2023. We’ve extensively looked at the 3 steel models that form the core collection, but IWC had one last trick under its sleeve for us, one that we couldn’t see in advance, the Titanium IWC Ingenieur Automatic 40. And yes, in many regards, it is special.?Very quick recap. The IWC Ingenieur collection was born in the mid-1950s as a watch dedicated to people working in magnetic environments – the main specificity of the reference 666 was its movement protected by a soft-iron cage, something that w
Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy Blue (Specs & Price)
Tudor is no stranger to dive watches with iconic pieces going back decades. Validated by both the French Navy (Marine Nationale) and US Navy (among other world militaries), Tudor Submariners have a well-earned reputation. Other than a minor inscription, military Tudors are almost always the same as civilian counterparts, which is a testament to quality and robustness. Following the wildly popular 41mm Black Bay series from 2012, the Black Bay Fifty-Eight debuted in 2018 with a smaller case and new movement. Originally clad in black and gold, the latest BB58 Navy Blue has a fresher, monochromatic vibe with a blue dial and bezel. ?Family picture… From left to right, the 1st generation BB 41mm (ETA movement), the BB58 Navy Blue and the Black/Gold BB58Blue is BlackAlthough the Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy Blue is simply a new colour variant, it really changes the personality. Blue is by no means a new colour for Tudor as models like the Pelagos Blue and 41mm Black Bay Midnight Bl
