Portrait - David Candaux, An Independent Watchmaker with the Soul of the Vallee de Joux
Independent watchmaking has been on the rise over the past 20 years, and for good reason. Independent watchmakers are guided by passion and personal perspectives, leading to authentic creations and often crafted to a level unattainable in mass production. David Candaux's motto, Le Coeur et l'Esprit (the heart and mind), perfectly captures this philosophy. Raised in a family of watchmakers, Candaux deeply appreciates the craft’s history, evident in his work. However, for him, tradition should not merely be repetition. If he is a perfect representative of the Vallee de Joux expertise – which means complicated watchmaking and refined craftsmanship, his watches are in a class of their own. We visited the watchmaker in the small village of Le Solliat Just a few meters away from Philippe Dufour's workshop.Xavier Markl, MONOCHROME – David, thank you for having us. Your approach to watchmaking is holistic, encompassing everything from movement engineering to crafting and fini

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Full-Steel 2022 - Video Review, Price
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Collection was introduced in 1992 and has since been the classic, slightly vintage branch of the brand. The collection combines an impressive technical rigour with a stylistic approach inspired by classic round timepieces made by JLC in the 1950s. And of course, there’s the fact that these watches undergo the brand’s 1000 Hours Control certification. The Master Control was refreshed in 2020?with a more streamlined and more contemporary design, yet with the same timeless attire as before. Available in several versions?with different calibres, it’s time for this somewhat formal collection to become more versatile, as the Master Control Calendar and the Master Control Chronograph Calendar now come with interchangeable stainless steel bracelets (and leather straps). The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control is the best definition of a classic luxury watch at Jaeger-LeCoultre. Have fun reading it… and in the mean time i’d like to show of my beautiful vintage Heuer Autavia and re-issue TAG Heuer Monaco ?? Ad - Scroll to continue with article
Hands-On - Ulysse Nardin Freak NeXt - A New Concept with Revolutionary 3D Flying Oscillator
Compliant mechanisms are flexible mechanisms that transfer an input force or displacement to another point through elastic body deformation. Covered in detail here, they offer huge innovation potential for mechanical watchmaking. Further proof of this revolution can be found in the latest version of the Ulysse Nardin Freak. Packed with innovative applications of flexible parts, the Freak NeXt features a revolutionary flying oscillator whose tridimensional architecture is based on flexible silicon blades. Meet the latest model in a long lineage of innovative watches, the Ulysse Nardin Freak NeXt. And if it is still a concept watch for now, it might make it into production in the very near future. Here, we are dealing with the very essence of watchmaking and chronometry.
