ATTACK OF THE CLONES! See What Happens When a Body and Face are CLONED - But the Soul is Nowhere to be Found! - Monochrome Watches
I’m truly sorry to dredge up this subject once again – but I’ve been asked by some highly influential people to pontificate on the sordid subject of ‘so called’ clone watches.A few weeks ago I shared an exchange of messages back and forth with Monochrome-Watches.com Editor, Founder, Head-Honcho and newly-wed: Frank Geelen. This t¨ºte-¨¤-t¨ºte was initiated by a clone' watch Frank saw in the window of an Italian jewelry shop. We then played a little game of yeah – but did you know about THIS one' sending links to auctions for clone watches back and forth. By the time we were done we were both a bit shocked at how many there were and we were also a bit horrified that the companies that created these watches were not fly-by-night organizations, they were generally well-regarded brands in the industry, with serious credentials and credibility at stake! Interview Antoine Pin, Managing Director of the Bvlgari Watch Division
2021 has kicked off with challenges for the industry, in a rather difficult context, but also important news. Indeed, the LVMH Watch Week 2021 was the opportunity for the brands under the French luxury powerhouse to unveil some of their novelties. It was also the perfect occasion for MONOCHROME to interview Antoine Pin, Managing Director of the Bvlgari watch division.Xavier Markl, MONOCHROME – 2020 was a challenging year for the industry. How was it for Bvlgari?Antoine Pin, Bvlgari – We started the year with the very successful LVMH Watch Week in Dubai. Following the Coronavirus outbreak, the first semester proved challenging. The lockdowns didn't just affect the market; they also affected manufacturing in Switzerland. We have a highly integrated production line but with lockdown measures in place production had to be halted. We had to protect our staff before anything else. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
Hands-On: The Accessible and Original Lorca Model No.1 GMT
Lorca is a new microbrand with an inaugural piece offering GMT functionality, which is always nice to welcome to the market. Its Canadian founder (with both Swiss and Canadian roots) now resides in New York, but the watch has a positively European style and Swiss-made designation. The movement is also a step above your typical Sellita offering. There's a retro vibe with two dial colours available and casual onlookers might think the Model No. 1 GMT is a vintage 1960s piece. In fact, its compact dimensions for a GMT watch are rare today and could be a great match for frequent travellers and jetsetters. ?Founder Jesse Marchant is a recording artist in Brooklyn, New York who simply wanted the perfect GMT watch for tours in Europe and North America. Most contemporary GMT watches are 40mm and above, but Marchant wanted a more sensible diameter from a bygone era. The resulting piece is a blend of many styles with a truly unique personality. Aptly named Model No. 1 GMT, it's an example of wha
Just Because - Some of the Most Used Nicknames in Watchmaking
Like them or not, appropriate or not, nicknames have to be earned. Watches are very personal objects and they reflect an enduring connection with fans. Often, these nicknames are directly inspired by the characteristics of the watch, its shape or colours. In other cases, celebrities or a special event made a watch famous and their name has remained linked to the model forever. One thing is certain, iconic watches from cult brands earn nicknames among collectors and aficionados. Not surprisingly, these are widespread across the more popular brands ( , Seiko, Omega) while the watches from niche or high-end brands get less of these familiar monikers. Even cult Patek watches are referred to by connoisseurs with their 4-digit reference numbers, rather than their names. Here are some of the brands with the most nicknames?Note: If you can think of any other nicknames, please share them in our comment section below. We’d be delighted to expand the list. As you would expect, no other bran
