The Ultimate Guide To The A. Lange & Sohne Lange 1 Collection
The word icon is, unfortunately, used and abused by the industry. There are, nevertheless, true iconic watches, most of them introduced during the golden era of mechanical watchmaking during the 1950s and 1960s. When it comes to “modern icons”, watches that have been presented after the quartz crisis, few can rival the importance of the Lange 1, a watch that has been instrumental in the resurrection of the A. Lange & Sohne brand, of German watchmaking and of the whole concept of high-end horology. This formidable resurrection can be attributed to the genius of Gunter Blumlein. Today, we’ll revisit the A. Lange & S?hne Lange 1 by bringing you an in-depth and as exhaustive as possible guide looking at all models, all complications, all references, and illustrated by a movie featuring the brand’s CEO.?The story of the Lange 1 entirely coincides with that of the resurrection of A. Lange & Sohne. After rejuvenating Jeager-LeCoultre and IWC, Gunter Blumlei
Bulgari Serpenti Seduttori Tourbillon // Introducing, Specs, Price
LVMH's first round of 2020 watchmaking novelties is being unveiled in the luxurious Dubai Bvlgari Hotel today. So what could be more fitting that a quick peek at the highlight of Bvlgari's watchmaking releases: the Serpenti Seduttori Tourbillon. In keeping with Bvlgari's recent tradition of setting world records in the watchmaking arena, this new Serpenti Seduttori collection features the smallest tourbillon on the market today.GENESIS OF THE SERPENTIIt's worthwhile remembering that Bvlgari's watchmaking adventure began in the late 1940s when designers had the idea of transforming an existing - and very popular – high jewellery snake bracelet into a secret watch. Brought out of hibernation after almost 60 years, the Serpenti slithered back into the limelight to regain its iconic status and has appeared in countless iterations. 2020 marks the introduction of a fascinating tourbillon complication placed inside the diminutive head of the snake. Introducing the Vintage-Inspired Ulysse Nardin Diver Le Locle (Hands-On, Specs & Price)
This year, you’ll see several very nice?watches from Ulysse Nardin, all paying?homage to the great heritage of the brand (and believe us, since its inception in 1846, the brand has done A LOT). Recently, UN launched a watch as a tribute to the great Ludwig Oeschlin (a watch that will soon be under our loupe) and now, we have something drastically different?and quite unexpected from the brand; a vintage-inspired dive watch… Surprising at first but the result, the Ulysse Nardin Diver Le Locle, is properly cool. While the current Ulysse Nardin catalogue?does comprise various dive watches, under the Diver?range, the idea of such watches in?past?collections (thinks 1950s, 1960s)?doesn’t really ring a bell at first. Of course, everyone know the antique Marine Chronometers (which still greatly inspire the brand and its watches) or the developments of innovative movements. However, in terms of vintage dive watches, let’s agree, Ulysse Nardin is probably not the?first bra
Hands-on - Patek Philippe 5204R Split-Seconds Chronograph Perpetual Calendar - Baselworld 2016 (live pics & price) - Monochrome Watches
At Patek Philippe, there are the chronographs. There are also the super-chronographs. There’s a uber-chronograph too. And finally, there’s the 5204, which?could be called the “king of chronographs“, a beautiful blend of a split-seconds chronograph and perpetual calendar, so-to-say, the proper essence of what Patek Philippe is. This watch is complicated, it is extremely demonstrative and it is a collector’s grail. For Baselworld 2016, this uber-chronograph?is now available in 18k pink gold, to be precise under the reference Patek Philippe 5204R-001. This seems to be the perfect?occasion to have a look back at this split-seconds chronograph perpetual calendar. The?Patek Philippe 5204R is impressive. Right. So no big news here. Clearly, arguing that a split-seconds chronograph with perpetual calendar from Patek Philippe is an impressive watch is kind?of an?euphemism. But that doesn’t prevent us from drooling in front of it. The ref. 5204 was introduced a
Baselworld, the world's largest watch and jewellery fair, appoints a new Managing Director, Michel Loris-Melikoff - Monochrome Watches
The man tasked with reshaping Baselworld to meet the current challenges is a 53-old lawyer who started his career in Private Banking. He was previously with the MHC group (the company organising Baselworld) in Lausanne. The longstanding Managing Director of Baselworld, Sylvie Ritter, has decided to step down from her position at the MCH Group after 15 years. The transfer of management will take place on 1 July 2018.Baselworld needs to rethink itself and how it operates. If the industry has seen business improve over the past months after a prolonged downturn, Baselworld faces great challenges with the withdrawal of numerous exhibitors (several of them now showing at SIHH), the smaller size of the fair and increasing criticism about the organisation. The number of days of the event was reduced by two days in 2018. A few years ago, MHC invested massively to upgrade the show and build a larger exhibition area. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
