Two Monochrome Editions by Harry Winston - Monochrome Watches
A few months ago, we at Monochrome received a call that blew our socks off. The guys and gals from Harry Winston had some great news they wanted to share with us. In preparation for this year's Baselworld, they were looking to do something special besides the annual Opus timepiece. The final suggestion was to debut two watches, one of them being an elegant dress watch and the other a more expressive timepiece. That's how we would have liked to have started this story, but sadly that is not the reality. However we do feel quite privileged to have a Harry Winston watch bearing our online magazine’s name. And the best part is, there is not just one, but two of them out there! Meet the?Harry Winston Midnight Monochrome Automatic and Ocean Dual Time Monochrome. The Midnight Monochrome is the dress watch, with a rather stunning looking grey dial.?The dial is made to look very much like a piece of slate, and closely resembles this stone, which gives it a smooth, yet still kind of rough ap
Hands-On - Graham Chronofighter Superlight Carbon Tourbillograph (Specs & Price)
Graham celebrates the 10th anniversary of its Tourbillograph, a chronograph/tourbillon combo housed in the brand’s cornerstone Chronofighter case. With its imposing 47mm dimensions, the weight of the case has been considerably lightened with the incorporation of a carbon case. A limited edition of 10 pieces, the dial of the Superlight Carbon Tourbillograph plays with a black and golden colour scheme.Black Carbon CaseThis 10th-anniversary edition of the Tourbillograph belongs to Graham's Chronofighter Superlight family of carbon case watches. Still, the brand's best-selling model, the distinctive trait of the Chronofighter is the chrono trigger lever on the left side of the case. Inspired by a countdown bomb timer made for the Italian Air Force by Universal Geneve, you can read all about the genesis and evolution of the Chronofighter collection in Xavier's in-depth article. Interview: Thierry Stern, President of Patek Philippe, On The Tokyo Grand Exhibition
From 10 to 25 June 2023, Patek Philippe hosted the largest exhibition ever organized by the manufacture, the Grand Exhibition “Watch Art” Tokyo 2023. Some 60,000 visitors attended what's surely a success for the brand, which was accompanied by the launch of several limited editions, including two technical timepieces making their global debut. An important part of the communication strategy of the brand, these exhibitions allow collectors and simple watch enthusiasts to immerse themselves into the exclusive world of Patek. We're talking with Mr Thierry Stern, President of Patek Philippe, about the importance and purposes of these Grand Exhibitions. After Dubai in 2012, Munich in 2013, London in 2015, New York in 2017 and Singapore in 2019, Patek Philippe chose Tokyo for the sixth of its grand exhibitions across the world. Historically an important market for watchmaking, gathering some of the most discerning collectors around the globe, Japan was a suitable place for this 20
Introducing: The new Grey Carl F. Bucherer Heritage BiCompax Annual
First released in 2019, the Heritage BiCompax Annual quickly became a best-selling watch for Carl F. Bucherer. Merging retro design elements with modern complications and practicality, it is one of the very few timepieces on the market to combine a chronograph and an annual calendar – something you’d imagine only Patek is capable of manufacturing… After multiple editions (Panda, Two-Tone, Reversed Panda, Gradient) it now comes back in a new, sleek and almost monochromatic version for 2024.Reminder. The Carl F. Bucherer Heritage BiCompax Annual was first introduced at Baselworld 2019 and made quite an impression. First, the design, inspired by 1950s watches made by CFB, was quite spot-on. Elegant, well-proportioned, full of charm. Next, the movement, despite being based on an outsourced ebauche, had a few tricks under its sleeve. On top of its chronograph is an annual calendar, also known as the best compromise between complexity, reliability and practicality. Last, th
Montblanc Heritage Manufacture Pulsograph Rose Gold Brown Dial // Review
If chronographs are a hot complication today, chronographs in a vintage package are even hotter, and if they happen to be fitted with a classic Minerva movement, we're talking coveted collector's piece here. Despite the cancellation of all the major watch fairs, we were able to spend some time and take photographs of the latest Montblanc Heritage Manufacture Pulsograph model, a limited edition of 100 pieces in rose gold with an evocative tobacco-brown gradient dial. So please, make yourself comfortable in that leather wingback chair by the fireplace, help yourself to a snifter and get ready to be seduced…From pens to watchesMontblanc, the famous German manufacturer with a French name, has been making high-end writing instruments (fountain pens) since 1906. Since its introduction in 1924, Montblanc's Mesiterstuck has been the star' of the fountain pen show and was famously documented in a photograph of John F. Kennedy lending his German-made Meisterstuck 149 to Konrad Adenauer, th
