Hublot Classic Fusion Italia Independent (Authentic Fabric Dials & Straps)
With Hublot, the word Fusion is not just the name of a watch. It is much more than that. it is a motto, a proper guideline for the design. Fusion refers to the concept of mixing materials, something that has always been in the DNA of the bold manufacture. Fusion of gold and ceramic, fusion of metals and rubber, fusion of gold and patinated leather, fusion of everything that you can imagine and more… Hublot dares to integrate in watches materials that you would have never thought about. And they did it again, with the?Hublot Classic Fusion Italia Independent, using authentic fabric dials & straps, the result of a collaboration with the highly creative?enfant terrible?Lapo Elkann. This is not the first time that these two terrible children of the luxury industry do team up to create watches. Since 2014, two collections have been born from the partnership between Hublot, Italia Independent and Lapo Elkann. Although both of the previous collections were based on the bold, masculin
The Petrolhead Corner - The Tolman Peugeot 205 GTI
The 1980s are not exactly known as a decade of refinement. After all, it’s the period where shoulder pads, spandex and leg warmers were all the rage. It was a decade with plenty of conflict and controversy the world over, but also tremendous progress. The rise of the computer and the birth of the internet are perhaps the foremost technological advancements. From a cultural perspective, it brought forth superstars like Madonna and Michael Jackson, movies like Rain Man, several Star Wars episodes and Top Gun. When looking back on the automotive side of things in the 1980s, the styling was at times rather questionable. Coming out of the oil crisis of the 1970s, design took a turn towards compact and more fuel-efficient cars on one end and sharp-edged futuristic cars on the other. Two prime examples are the DMC Delorean made famous in the Back To The Future Franchise, and the Peugeot 205 GTI, an icon in Group B rallying. And that latter is today’s topic of choice, more specific
Longines Heritage 1935, both the Historic Czech Pilot Watch and the New Version Explained - Monochrome Watches
If you look at the last few Longines we've written?about, you’ll immediately notice that they are all part of the Heritage collection, the tribute watches?to Longines’ great history. For instance, we’ve presented you with the Heritage Diver,?honoring?1970’s diving watches; the Conquest Heritage, a faithful re-issue of the original 1954 Conquest; and?the Heritage 1973?that recalls the iconic?1970’s racing chronographs. At Baselworld 2014, Longines introduced?another interpretation of a historic watch, a tribute to 1935?Czechoslovakian pilot watches, the Heritage 1935. Let’s look back at the Longines Czech Pilot and compare it with the new Longines Heritage 1935.?The historical Longines Czech Aviator’s watchIIn between the two World Wars, plenty of watch brands supplied timekeeping tools to military forces. These included Glashutte Original or A.Lange & Sohne and their now famous, and overly copied,?B-Uhr Flieger watches. Longines also suppli
First Look: The Olive-Green Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton
With its Captain Cook, Rado, a brand part of the Swatch Group, is merging two important sides of its history. First, this watch collection revived one of the brand’s greatest watches of the past, a 1960s dive watch with a rather peculiar yet attractive design. Second, it is used as a vessel to showcase the company’s leading know-how in high-tech materials (the brand labels itself as The Master of Materials), in particular ceramics. This skilful blend of retro vibes and high-tech materials has recently been demonstrated with the Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton, which is now available in an unexpectedly cool mix of olive-green ceramic and PVD rose gold accents.?The Rado Captain Cook started its life as a classic take on the dive watch, yet with a slightly original design. Born in 1962, it was revamped in 2017 as a limited edition, then followed in 2019 by yet another 37mm limited edition – both watches faithful to the original concept and design, made out of sta
First Look: The New Vacheron Constantin Overseas Tourbillon Titanium
Incarnating Vacheron Constantin’s sophisticated vision of a luxury sports watch, the Overseas has its roots in the 222, a 1977 model designed to celebrate the brand's 222nd anniversary. Following a major overhaul in 2016, the brand released the third generation Overseas with a host of complications and a versatile interchangeable strap and bracelet system. The tourbillon complication was incorporated in 2019. Following editions in steel, white gold and rose gold, Vacheron announces a new version clad in titanium from head to toe. Identical to former editions, including the signature Overseas blue dial colour, the novelty for 2024 is the choice of a material.Titanium – which is 30% more resistant than steel and only half its weight - is not new to the Overseas family and has been used in limited editions in the past. Two special Overseas Everest editions for mountaineer Cory Richards were produced with titanium elements combined with other materials. In 2002, the brand offer
