Introducing the A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Boutique Edition, now with Grey Dial and back at 37mm (specs & price) - Monochrome-Watches
For Watches & Wonders 2015, A. Lange and Sohne adds two new models to their entry level watch, the Saxonia. This watch, even if not the hottest?of the collection (compared to the Datograph or the Zeitwerk) remains one of the best deals possible when it comes to elegant, discreet, dress-watches – even more since the new design introduced at the SIHH 2015. Previsouly available only with a classical sliver dial, the?A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia can now be ordered in a Boutique Edition with a dark grey dial – oh wait, there’s more… It’s back at 37mm.For 20 years now, the Saxonia had been the traditional offer from?A. Lange & Sohne, a timeless watch with a highly classical design and no other goal?than the most important one: displaying time with elegance. This collection was renewed during the 2015 edition of the SIHH, with a new design (for the hand-wound, the automatic and the dual time editions) and mainly smaller diameters, something we clearly app
IWC Mark XII Saab Limited Edition on the Day that Saab Starts Production Again - Monochrome Watches
When I wrote about the IWC Mark XII Saab ‘Mellow Yellow’ a few years ago, nobody could have suspected that Saab would start up production again. Well, today they started up production in the Saab factories in Trollh?ttan, Sweden. As an avid Saab driver, this makes a perfectly good reason to celebrate this with my own IWC Mark XII Saab.As an avid Saab driver – I’ve owned quite a few 900 classics and several 9-3’s – I couldn’t resist when I saw a used IWC Mark XII Saab for sale, earlier this year. I had actually been looking for one for several years, but as these things go, available budget and a good one, complete with all boxes and papers, for sale, somehow never “aligned”. As I previously wrote, that watch could well become the only Saab that holds its value and when looking at today’s market prices it looks like my prediction is still correct. The Petrolhead Corner: H. Moser & Cie and BWT Alpine F1
For the second week running, I’m going to cover the fast-paced world of Formula 1, as I was lucky enough to be invited by H. Moser & Cie and the BWT Alpine F1 team for a factory tour and a one-day visit to the 2024 Silverstone Grand Prix. For those who have been following our Petrolhead Corner, which includes personal experiences from time to time, it’s no secret I love F1 racing and have been following it for about 30 years now. Weirdly, I have yet to visit an actual F1 race weekend but I’m not going to bore you with details on why that hasn’t happened yet. Instead, I will share my experience setting foot in the Enstone compounds of Alpine, talking to Pierre Gasly for a bit, and paying a visit to the Silverstone track on Friday.Front row, third through fifth from the left; our editor Xavier Markl, Alpine racing driver Pierre Gasly, and myself. The BWT Alpine F1 Team might not be the oldest on paper, as the name has been around since 2021, yet the history beh
Hands-On - Does the New Zenith Elite Classic Live Up To its Predecessor?
The Elite Classic represents Zenith's vision of the elegant dress watch. Being the less famous sibling of the El Primero movement, it was long overlooked. But earlier this year, the brand from Le Locle revealed its completely revamped take on the Elite. It was received with praise. As I happen to own the previous generation of this model, it was a great opportunity to compare both pieces. Is the new version also a better one? Earlier this year, the Zenith Elite finally got the facelift it desperately needed. The most striking aspect of this renewed family is the stamped radial sunray pattern on the dial, giving the watches an expressive and dynamic face. Possible colours for the dial are classic, with options for blue, grey and white. Straps are available in the same colours and brown. It has been presented in time-and-date and with a moon phase complication, and it is available in both a gold and a steel case measuring 40,5mm. Prices start at CHF 5,900.The new Z
Introducing the Montblanc Heritage Chronometrie Dual Time Vasco da Gama Limited Edition 238 - Monochrome-Watches
Montblanc had been quite active these past years, surprising watch-lovers with complicated timepieces priced to?highly competitive price levels. It had been the case first with a perpetual calendar costing less than 10.000 Euros but also with all sorts of complications, like a complete calendar, an annual calendar or a world-timer, making these interesting complications?accessible to collectors with a lower budget. Into the?Heritage Chronometrie collection, we recently reviewed?the Dual-Time, a watch that now comes in a limited edition for Watches & Wonders 2015, the?Montblanc Heritage Chronometrie Dual Time Vasco da Gama Limited Edition 238.As we like?to remind you, having a second time-zone feature is extremely convenient, in an era of globalization, transnational meetings and frequent travels. It gives the opportunity to keep an eye on your home time when traveling or to be sure to be right on time when calling your colleagues working on the other side of the planet. Montblanc r
