Introducing: The A. Lange & Sohne Odysseus Honeygold
The Odysseus disembarked at A. Lange & Sohne in 2019, the Saxon brand's interpretation of a luxury steel sports watch with a personality all its own. Not only was it the first steel model for the brand, but it was also the first model with 120m water-resistance, the first model with a metallic integrated bracelet, and it was equipped with a bespoke movement. The Odysseus is back in resplendent form, clad from head to toe in Lange's proprietary Honeygold paired with an attractive chocolatey brown dial.Honeygold is a special 18k gold alloy developed for Lange in 2010 with a unique colour comparable to that of honey. Harder than other gold alloys and platinum and, therefore, much harder to shape and finish, Honeygold is reserved for Lange's most exclusive timepieces. The prominent polished bezel sits on top of a middle case with an asymmetrical and angular module framing the crown. The module is not a crown guard (the crown is screwed down to ensure the 120m WR), but instead, houses the two tapered pushers to correct the outsize date and weekday indications.Marking a first for the collection, the integrated five-row bracelet of the Odysseus is made in luxurious Honeygold and decorated predominantly with vertical satin-brushed finishes and lively polished bevels. The deployant buckle is fitted with a user-friendly mechanism to adjust the length up to 7mm without opening the buckle. Sharing a similar dial to the white gold Odysseus with embossed grooves on the chapter ring and the outer track of the subsidiary seconds dial, the chocolatey brown colour selected works well with the Honeygold case. The distinguishing feature is the day and outsize date displays in two rectangular apertures at 9 and 3 o'clock. Framed in gold, the large letters of the weekday and the numerals of the outsize date window are white, and the background is brown, matching the dial. The lancet-shaped hands and notched baton appliques are also crafted in Honeygold and treated with a luminescent coating. Lastly, the brushed peripheral minutes scale features a red number 60.A special manufacture calibre, the L155.1 Datomatic (date mechanism + automatic winding), was developed exclusively for the Odysseus. In keeping with its functionality as a sports watch, the frequency is 4Hz instead of the usual 3Hz of Lange watches, and the power reserve is 50 hours. The decoration is in line with Lange's high standards. The Odysseus Honeygold is a limited edition of 100 pieces. The price is on request. More information at alange-soehne.com.
