Tonight, as every year, is the celebration of watchmaking, watchmakers and watches in general… It is the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve (or GPHG 2020) – the Oscars of the watchmaking industry. Several categories are represented (ladies, men, complicated and even affordable watches) and the best watches of the year will be awarded the coveted Golden Hand prize – and of course, the prize we’re all waiting for, the “Aiguille d’Or” or the best of the show, celebrating the best watch introduced in 2020. It is intended to foster creative audacity. This prize is discretionary and the jury will decide whether there are grounds for awarding it in 2020.“Horological Revelation” PrizeThis prize rewards a watch, created by a young brand (less than ten years of existence since its first model was commercialised) and entered in one of the fourteen categories. It may also reward the mechanical creation of a young talent, in the event that none of the competing watches should be considered worthy of receiving this prize. This prize is optional and the jury will decide whether it should be awarded in 2020.Smartwatch PrizeThis prize rewards the best smartwatch entered in the competition. This prize is discretionary, the Jury will decide whether there are grounds for awarding it in 2020.Special Jury PrizeThis prize rewards a personality, institution or initiative that has played a fundamental role in promoting high-quality watchmaking.
