Industry Richemont's 2020/2021 Yearly Results Show Resilience
There’s no denying that the year 2020 has been difficult for all industries, including luxury goods. Due to closures of points of sales, logistics centres and manufacturing sites, as well as the halt in international tourism resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, luxury powerhouses have seen sales contracting drastically. Yet, the end of 2020 and the first months of 2021 are clearly showing strong signs of recovery. Following announcements by LVMH and Swatch Group, it is now time for the other major player in the field of luxury watchmaking and jewellery to announce its yearly results. And indeed, while the situation has been difficult for Richemont, the end of the financial year is on the rise, surpassing sales of the prior year.?Keeping in mind that Richemont’s financial year starts on April 1st and ends in March 2021, the results for the first half of the financial year 2020/2021 directly reflect the impact of the closure of shops and manufacturing centres. Categorizing Independent Watchmakers - Monochrome Watches
Independent watchmakers are in many ways different from other watch companies. But in the end they all make wristwatches we enjoy wearing and collecting. Oris Aquis Date Calibre 400 41.5mm Bi-Colour (Specs, Price)
Oris introduced the in-house calibre 400 automatic in late 2020 that replaced Sellita counterparts in higher-end models and joined the in-house, hand-wound calibre 110 from 2014 (and subsequent variants). Major improvements like an anti-magnetic escapement and five-day power reserve overshadowed the always reliable Sellitas, but prices remained (relatively) accessible for the updated Aquis Date models. The latest Oris Aquis Date Calibre 400 duo come with 41.5mm cases and 18k gold bezel edges, and the latter adds some panache to the already stylish series. You also have the choice of two dial colours and either an integrated bracelet or rubber strap, so there's a nice variety on tap as well.? The new collection matches the aesthetic of last year's introduction of the 41.5mm Aquis Date Calibre 400, but gold accents really dress things up. As mentioned, the unidirectional rotating bezel has an 18k gold finish on the outer edge, while the detailed 60-minute diver's s
Introducing The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Moon Phase Retrograde Date (Live Pics)
The Vacheron Constantin Overseas collection debuted in 1996 but was viewed by many as a successor to Vacheron’s 222 models, designed by Jorg Hysek (that wasn’t Genta)?and presented in 1977. The collection, updated in 2016, is built around the popular concept of a sports luxury watch, with various editions of the casually elegant Overseas always in high demand. Vacheron successfully blended high watchmaking into the sporty-chic Overseas line, offering several complications, including a tourbillon, perpetual calendar ultra-thin, chronograph and dual time models. The Maison adds a reference with a moon-phase display and a retrograde date this year. The retrograde indication is a feature found in the Patrimony collection, but until now, it was not part of the Overseas offering. It is worth mentioning that the unusual display made its way into Vacheron Constantin’s assortment in the 1990s, first with the Metiers d’Art collection Mercator models with a double retrograd
Vacheron Constantin FIFTYSIX Self-Winding and Complete Calendar with Blue Dials (Hands-On) - Monochrome Watches
This year, Vacheron Constantin will introduce striking blue dials to its popular FIFTYSIX collection. While it may be an obvious iteration for the brand, it is certainly not an unwelcome one, adding another element to Vacheron's entry-level offering. Today, we're taking a quick look at the new FIFTYSIX Self-Winding and FIFTYSIX Complete Calendar dressed in blue.By way of a quick refresher, Vacheron introduced the FIFTYSIX collection last year at SIHH 2018. Intended very much as an entry-level range designed to attract younger buyers to the brand, it was initially met with mixed reviews. Some - including us here at MONOCHROME - found the idea of an affordable' (relatively speaking, of course) watch a bit at odds with the brand's prestigious reputation for Haute Horlogerie.
