Hands-on Vacheron Constantin Overseas Ultra-Thin Perpetual Calendar (Live pics & price) - and why a QP is relevant in such a sports-watch - Monochrome Watches
The new Overseas collection by Vacheron Constantin, introduced this year at the SIHH, ticks all the right boxes. The watch’ design is pure, inspired, the finish is exquisite, and overall it’s desirable and luxurious… It is actually difficult to find flaws here. Whether we talk about the?normal 3-hander, the Chronograph or the Ultra-Thin edition; when we got to see these new models we are very impressed. There’s one?version that we didn’t show to you, yet, and this is the flagship one: the?Vacheron Constantin Overseas Ultra-Thin Perpetual Calendar. This watch does bring a question to the table: is such a refined movement with perpetual calendar complication useful and relevant in a sport-oriented watch? Is it similar to a 633 bhp twin-turbo W12 engine in a delicate Bentley Continental GT Speed? Let’s just enjoy the beauty of it, please!You’re probably already quite aware of the new Overseas collection by Vacheron Constantin, as it received a rat
Value Proposition - Hands-On With The Aramar Long Beach Racing Chronograph - Monochrome Watches
Vintage-inspired watches have been one of the hottest trends of 2017 and this looks set to continue in 2018. Automotive-focused watches from the golden era of the 1960's and 1970's, such as the Bell & Ross Vintage Bellytanker and the Heuer Autavia, have been particularly popular, no doubt helped along in no small part by the $17m sale of a Daytona owned by some guy. Not everyone can afford the premium price tags these types of watch command, however, so today we're getting hands-on with a much more accessible alternative from Netherlands-based watch designer and producer, Aramar Watch Co. Called the Long Beach Racing Chronograph, it's already exceeded its funding goal on Kickstarter, with just under a month still to go. Read on for all the details.The Aramar Watch CompanyThe idea for the Aramar Watch Company came about in 2010 after a proposed collaboration with an already established watch brand failed to come to fruition. Rather than relying on someone else, the team thought th
Embracing The Winter Cold With Six Icy-White Watches
For a large part of the world, the cold season is setting in. Temperatures are dropping, daylight gets pushed back by darkness, snow and ice are grinding cities and towns to a halt and so on. To turn things around and embrace the cold, why not opt for a cool white watch for the winter season? The colour is usually most associated with summer sun, the beach or the pool, but it works just as fine in winter, I’d say! With this in mind, here are six snow-white watches to get you through the winter slum!hublot square bang Unico white ceramicBig, bold, and mostly white, the Hublot Square Bang Unico in white ceramic certainly packs a visual punch. This square-shaped watch from Hublot measures 41mm by 12mm and has a modular white ceramic case with black and titanium elements. The dial is pretty much absent, revealing the in-house Calibre HUB1280 flyback chronograph movement underneath. The large indices & hands still make it relatively legible. Strapped to a structured white rubber s
The Titanium Zenith Defy Revival Shadow
There is the funky blue, the ruby red and the gradient brown, and we were right to expect another bright-coloured edition of the Defy Revival by Zenith to join the series (like the blue A3651), but no. The brand opted for “dark tones and muted textures” for the new watch in the Defy Revival series, in line with the Chronomaster Revival Shadow, released by Zenith in 2020. The new monochromatic Zenith Defy Revival Shadow looks stealthily good and contemporary but keeps its full vintage flare.It is impressive how a watch conceived half a century ago can be provided with a new look with so few changes. The 37mm case of the new Defy Revival Shadow, including its distinctive fourteen-sided bezel, is made from titanium and is micro-blasted to achieve the desired matte finish. The iconic “ladder” bracelet, designed by Gay Freres exclusively for Zenith in 1969 and until now produced in stainless steel only, is now crafted in titanium and gets the same treatment as the ca
2008 -> 2009 - Monochrome Watches
2008 has been quite an exiting year when it comes to watches. As a collector and admirer of fine timepieces i have seen some great new watches. Technically the brands start working with new materials, not only for the cases, but also for movement parts. When it comes to design it seem that the main focus is still on large watches, but i wouldn’t be amazed if this will change next year already.Coming from the Netherlands it also made me proud to see the birth of a new Dutch watch brand. The brother Bart and Tim Gronefeld showed their first watch during the European GTG a friend and i organised last november. The Gronefeld GTM06 shows an incredibly high standard of finish and the minite repaeter gong… well, you have to hear them to believe the incredible sound coming from a small wristwatch!From a personal point of view i hope to see some more reasonably priced and reasonably sized watches next year. Not every brand needs a tourbillon i think. And not every brand needs to hav
