First Look: The 2mm Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon is the new Worlds Thinnest Tourbillon
One field of expertise immediately comes to mind when thinking about Piaget: the art of crafting ultra-thin watches. Throughout its history, the brand has become synonymous with legendary calibres, such as the 2mm thin 9P introduced in 1957 and the 2.3mm thin 12P micro-rotor movement unveiled in 1960. Approximately a decade ago, the groundbreaking 900P heralded a radical reengineering of watch architecture, seamlessly fusing the mainplate with the caseback. This innovation laid the groundwork for the creation of the Altiplano Ultimate Concept, unveiled in 2018 at a mere 2mm thickness, making it the thinnest mechanical watch ever produced at the time. As the brand celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2024, a milestone to mark that date was to be expected. The latest iteration of the AUC, the Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon, retains its remarkable 2mm profile, a hallmark of its predecessors. However, it now boasts the addition of a tourbillon, making it the thinnest tourbillon watch
Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Salmon Review
With most people's attention focused on the renaissance of the Gold Historiques 222 and even the skeletonised version of the Overseas during Watches and Wonders 2022, the presentation of Vacheron Constantin's salmon dial chrono QP was – surprisingly – bypassed by many. Fair enough, Vacheron's Traditionnelle Perpetual Calendar Chronograph with an in-house movement has been around since 2016, so it was not a novelty. However, what was new was the presentation of this platinum version with a beautiful salmon dial, perpetuating the refined yet demure existence of a model that underscores Vacheron Constantin's status as one of the top proponents of Swiss watchmaking.Comparisons to Patek Philippe's 5270 perpetual calendar and chronograph are inevitable, especially with this latest platinum case/salmon dial combo, and welcome. Interestingly, both Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin had relied on the prestigious Lemania calibre as the chronograph base for their perpetual calenda

IWC Big Pilot's Watch 43 Collection IW3293 - Review, Video, Price
Even though IWC Pilot’s Watch collection resurfaced in the early 1990s with the Flieger DoppelChronograph 3711, quickly followed by the Ceramic Flieger 3705 – as we’ve seen recently with the Tribute watch – the most emblematic watch of this entire collection is, without doubt, the Big Pilot’s Watch and its oversized case. Bold, immediately recognisable and ultra-functional, this watch defines the overall concept of the IWC Pilot’s Watch collection since its introduction in 2002. Today, this icon is joined by a “less-big Big Pilot” watch, a downsized, more rational version, the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch 43. New size, new movement, simplified display, new interchangeable straps, improved specifications… We tell you all about the IW3293 collection in this article and the video above. The Big Pilot’s storyBefore we even move to modern references of the Big Pilot’s watch, we have to look back at IWC’s history. A Journey to Red Bull Racing and through the racing heart of TAG Heuer - Monochrome Watches
Saturday means another kind of mechanics here, at MONOCHROME. As every week, we share with you our second passion: cars (like real cars, those that smell and make some noise). For this week's Petrolhead Corner installment we visited Red Bull Racing in Milton Keynes to have a chat about the bond between TAG Heuer and Red Bull. The relation between TAG and motorsports isn’t anything new; it was initiated long time ago by Mr. Jack Heuer himsel. In Milton Keynes we found out why relative newbie, Red Bull Racing, was the right partner to build the strongest collaboration on the grid. It's not necessarily the story marketing departments would like to hear, but it's fascinating to see just how spontaneously Jack Heuer’s involvement in car racing got started – and how naturally it has evolved. In his autobiography, TAG Heuer honorary chairman Jack Heuer describes going to the Monte Carlo rally in 1958. At the finish line, he writes, we studied every car arriving to see what ti
