Old school - Glashutte Original Sport Chronograph - Monochrome Watches
It is safe to say that in the 1990's the Swiss had the monopoly when it came to high-end sport chronographs with a manufacture movement. However, that was about to change, at least a little bit, when Glashutte Original introduced their Sport Chronograph, proudly made in Germany!Glashutte Original shared much of the same faith as Lange & Sohne and Muhle. After WWII they where hidden from the eye of the world behind the Iron Curtain, making watches (if any at all) that where solid but could hardly live up to the? capitalistic glory these companies once knew. The fall of the Berlin Wall brought them back to life and former glory. Glashutte Original originates from the VEB Glashutter Uhrenbetriebe, often better known as GUB (Glashutter Uhrenbetriebe), which was the result of a large merger in 1951 that included basically all the watch related industry in Glashutte. In 1990 this became Glashutter Uhrenbetrieb GmbH that in 1994 was purchased by Heinz W. Pfeifer and in 2000 joined the Swa
Review: Love at First Sight, The Chopard L.U.C XPS Forest Green
Most days, you’ll catch me wearing a dive watch or a classic chronograph. This is what I most enjoy as a watch collector (yes, we are first and foremost watch fans at MONO). I like to wear watches that I don’t have to worry about, and I love a timepiece with some heft. Not necessarily a large watch (41mm would usually be my maximum), but a watch with a feeling of robustness, most of the time on a metal bracelet. With this in mind, you can imagine that the classic, thin dress watch isn’t an object that I often strap around my wrist. I enjoy seeing them worn, but not on my wrist. Except that, I might just have found the one watch that changes everything.?When: Watches and Wonders 2024, 9 April 2024. Where: Chopard’s booth, press room. What: the freshly presented Chopard L.U.C XPS Forest Green. Reaction: wow, just wow. I know it sounds like one of those lines to generate enthusiasm. Well, it’s not. What I’m relating here is a genuine moment of excitemen
First Look: The new Chopard L.U.C Qualite Fleurier in Lucent Steel
A compact, elegant, and sublimely discreet L.U.C Qualite Fleurier heralds two firsts for Chopard. It is the first watch to receive the coveted seal since Chopard became the sole guardian of the Qualite Fleurier Foundation in 2022, and it is also the first watch of this elite family to be made in Lucent Steel. The Qualite Fleurier Certification was created in the early 2000s by three high-end Fleurier manufactures – Parmigiani Fleurier, Bovet and Chopard. It differs from the COSC or Geneva Seal because it evaluates the whole watch, from the quality of the finishing to the accuracy and from the assembly to the durability and reliability of a model. One of the most rigorous certifications in the industry, to obtain the Qualite Fleurier seal, the watch must have first passed the COSC chronometer certification, and the head of the watch (not including the bracelet or buckle) must be 100% Swiss-made. Following the withdrawal of three Maisons from its advisory board, Chopard became the s
Watches and Formula 1 - Episode 2 - Ferrari and Hublot - Monochrome Watches
Without a doubt, the biggest name in Formula 1 certainly is Ferrari. It is the only brand still running since the formation of the Official Formula 1 Championship in 1950. The have competed in every single race (except the very first one) and in every single season of the championship, with some of the biggest, most illustrious names behind the wheel. Partner it up with a bold, relatively young Swiss watchmaking brand like Hublot and you have a strong, flamboyant bond! Here is our second installment of Watches and Formula 1, with Ferrari and Hublot. One way or another, you cannot ignore their part in the success of Formula 1 and I everyone has to acknowledge the pedigree of the brand and it's racing team – and everything they did for the sport of motor racing. The most important part is to understand just what Ferrari (the car maker) and the Scuderia Ferrari (the racing team) have achieved over the years, and that is A LOT! Hands-On Artisans de Geneve Honey Pearl Project Skeleton Nautilus 5711
The personalisation of timepieces can take many forms, from a classic black coating to the highly debatable integration of stones (the so-called ‘icing process’). But some workshops are on a mission to demonstrate that customisation can be made with taste and Haute Horlogerie in mind. Artisans de Geneve is certainly among the best in this field. Known for radically transforming the look of a watch and applying intricate skeletonisation techniques to movements, this team of specialised craftsmen only works upon request. Following the initial Pearl Project with carbon elements, the workshop presents a new and highly attractive gold version, the Artisans de Geneve “Honey Pearl” Project.?Disclaimer: Artisans de Geneve is an independent company specialising in the personalisation of timepieces. The present watch is a sample of its know-how and of the personalisation services made upon request. Artisans de Geneve is not affiliated with Patek Philippe SA nor authorised
