Porsche Design Chronograph 1 - 1972 Limited Edition
Mostly known for the design of one of the most iconic cars ever created, a line that is extremely enduring (yes, we’re talking about the Porsche 911), Ferdinand Alexander “Butzi” Porsche was a genius, a visionary, and a talented designer of all things. As the founder of the?Porsche Design studio, we should keep in mind that the first product created under this umbrella was a wristwatch. And an important one, being the first black-coated watch ever commercialised, and a watch that has defined the entire style of the studio for the years to come. This timepiece, the Chronograph 1, was released in 1972 and thus celebrates its 50th anniversary this year… And as you’ve guessed, Porsche Design pays tribute to this model by releasing a special model, the new Chronograph 1 – 1972 Limited Edition. The first of its kind, the 1972 Porsche Design Chronograph 1The first-ever product to be launched by Porsche Design was a wristwatch and one that broke new grounds.
Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Perpetual Calendar
Jaeger-LeCoultre’s sporty Polaris collection welcomes a new perpetual calendar model, using a movement similar to the one powering the Master Ultra-Thin Perpetual model of 2019. Presented in a 42mm case in stainless steel or pink gold, the Polaris Perpetual Calendar features a gradient dark blue lacquered dial with three sub-dials for the calendar functions and an additional sub-dial for the phases of the Moon in both hemispheres. As a member of the Polaris family, the watch comes with a rotating inner bezel and other design features borrowed from the original Memovox Polaris of 1968.The experience Le Coultre & Cie. gained making its perpetual calendar pocket watches at the end of the 19th century was miniaturised and translated into wristwatch format in 1937. A perpetual calendar is like having a miniature mechanical computer on the wrist, capable of smoothing out the anomalies between civil time and celestial phenomena and automatically computing months of different lengths
Time to say goodbye - Monochrome Watches
Since my passion for watches began, the Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso has always been one of my favorites. Even during times when I was wearing watches with the average size of 44mm (like the Panerai PAM00001 ?I owned), I still considered it as very desirable. And I still do…To explain the title of this story I have to go back to a week in september of last year (2008), when visited New York City.?One of the things on my to-do list was to visit?Wempe near Central Park. My goal? To try a Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso and possibly buy it. The dollar-euro ratio was still excellent, which was a big advantage for anyone from Europe. The sales person (excellent service by the way!!) suggested I&
Oris Aquis Date Calibre 400 41.5mm (Specs & Price)
The Aquis is, without doubt, one of the most accomplished and acclaimed collections by Oris. A modern, robust and well-equipped dive watch, it has long been available with an outsourced automatic movement by Sellita. Yet, Oris had different plans and recently introduced a manufacture movement to offer watch enthusiasts more power, higher accuracy, more reliability and magnetic resistance. This engine, the Calibre 400, was first introduced in late 2020 into the larger 43.5mm edition of the Aquis. And now, for 2021, it finds its way in a more compact edition of this watch inside the Aquis Date Calibre 400 41.5mm Collection, in three different colours. At first, not much appears to have changed with these new models. The Aquis Date remains almost identical visually. A watch that has been in the collection for many years, it was revamped in 2017 with a slightly more refined and modernised design. Originally offered in a relatively large case of 43.5mm, followed by a 39.5mm edition, last yea
In-Depth - The Ulysse Nardin Freak, 20 years of Watchmaking Innovation
The genius and madness are separated by a very thin line. Weirdos and rebels, people who are different enough, crazy enough, are the ones who change the world. In that respect, the Ulysse Nardin Freak could not be more aptly named. This innovative, disruptive avant-garde masterpiece smashed all conventions and simply changed what's on our wrist todayThe late 1990s were still a time for the renaissance of mechanical watchmaking and the Swiss watch industry hadn't yet fully recover. Back then, very few watchmakers were actually producing movements internally. Most of the industry was sourcing from the same movement manufacturers, ETA for industrial movements, and a few high-end makers such as Frederic Piguet, Lemania, Zenith or Girard-Perregaux, to name a few. Most of the brands were simply happy enough with the renewed interest in mechanical watchmaking Ad - Scroll to continue with article
