Hands-on Review of the 2016 Patek Philippe 5170R Chronograph, now in rose gold (live pics, specs & price) - Monochrome Watches
At Patek Philippe, chronographs are something considered with an almost clerical?serious. From the extremely complex split-seconds or perpetual calendar versions – or even both – to the most simple variation, all of them are extremely desirable. One thing to note in the actual collection is a sort of back to basics, with cleaner and more elegant watches, slightly vintage inspired – something we’ve seen with the 5370 or the 5270. Launched in 2010, with a first evolution in 2013, followed by a stronger lifting in 2015, the?5170?undergoes this year its largest?cure of youth, becoming the Patek Philippe 5170R Chronograph, with 2 new references in rose gold – and one older reference being discontinued. But don’t expect a revolution. As usual, the devil is?in the details.Ok, what we’re about to show you is not the novelty of the year – even for Patek Philippe, as this title goes to the?5930g World Time Chronograph. This is not even an entirely
Hands-On - Czapek Geneve Quai des Bergues Guilloche - Monochrome Watches
The name Czapek, once famed as a partner of what would become Patek Philippe, came back to the forefront of the scene late 2015 with the elegant and well-thought out Quai des Bergues. The watch was awarded the public prize at GPHG 2016, one of the most (if not the most) meaningful industry award ceremony, which is no small achievement. The collection reflects the Czapek ethics to propose finely crafted classics whose understated style offers a distinctive twist and a distinctive character. The Quai des Bergues pink gold guilloche Emperor blue - unique piece. Hands-On Oris Coulson Limited Edition (Specs, Price)
Like many watchmakers these days, Oris is working on improving the planet and supporting relevant organizations. In fact, it's now independently certified as a climate-neutral company. Its latest partnership is with Coulson Aviation, a family-run Canadian agency that sends planes and equipment around the world to fight wildfires. Of course, there's a new watch to mark the occasion that's based on the Big Crown ProPilot series. It strays from the norm with an innovative carbon fibre case and fiery dial, but retains the well-established aesthetic. And what better way to leave 2022 than with a watch honouring a great cause??Coulson Aviation at workCoulson AviationCoulson Aviation was founded in 1960 as a logging company by Cliff Coulson, but his son Wayne helped diversify things and now runs the aerial firefighting arm with his own sons, Britton and Foster. Among their dangerous and vital services is flying a Boeing 737 passenger jet at 200 feet over burning houses. The organization can f
Interview - The Online Watch Market - Patrick Hoffmann from Watchbox Europe
Today, we continue our “Online Watch Market” series. After Chrono24 and Montredo, it is time to take a look at one of the main actors in this ultra-competitive market: WatchBox. Founded by experienced entrepreneurs and market-makers Danny Govberg (of US-based watch/jewels retailer Govberg Jewelers) and?Tay Liam Wee (Asia-based retailer Sincere Watches), WatchBox is today opening its European Offices in Switzerland. Perfect timing to talk with our long-time friend?Patrik Hoffmann (ex-CEO of a watch brand) about WatchBox Europe and the online watch market. What brought you to WatchBox Europe? My drive for innovation and being mature enough to be disruptive! I’ve known Danny Govberg, one of the co-founders of WatchBox for 20 years and when he showed me what WatchBox was about, he got my attention and I went to see the organisation in Philadelphia. Once I realised that WatchBox was not just' a watch company but a tech company, I said I wanted to be part of this. Being in t
The New Rose Gold and Titanium Hermes H08
Unveiled in 2021, the Hermes H08 is the French brand's versatile sporty-chic watch with a smooth cushion-shaped case and contemporary design elements. By juxtaposing different shapes (typical Hermes) and playing with different finishings and textures, the Hermes H08 reveals its fluid, sensual architecture. Previously offered in titanium and black graphene cases, the latest H08 ups the luxury factor with its sleek two-tone rose gold and black DLC-treated titanium case. Hermes, originally a saddle and harness atelier founded by Thierry Hermes in 1837, has become one of France's iconic luxury Maisons. Rather than pursue a conservative, conventional approach to luxury, Hermes has cultivated a unique design ethos for all its product lines that gives the Maison its distinctive personality. From silk scarves to Kelly bags and porcelain dinner sets, you can always feel the hand of the designer behind its beautiful creations. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
