First Look: The New Worlds Thinnest Mechanical Watch, The 1.70mm Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC
The competition for ultra-thin watches is more intense than ever. Watches with a thinness that would have been unimaginable a few years ago have recently been unveiled, with manufacturers squeezing complications into minimal space and tirelessly chasing microns. Bulgari's Octo Finissimo saga has garnered widespread recognition in this realm. The brand’s remarkable series of records included the world's thinnest mechanical watch in 2022, the Octo Finissimo Ultra, at a mere 1.8mm thick. However, Bulgari‘s reign was short-lived, when Richard Mille introduced the RM UP-01 a few months later, with its 1.75mm thickness. But it's time for Bulgari to reclaim its trophy and bragging rights. Meet the world's thinnest mechanical watch with the new 1.70mm Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC.The Octo Finissimo needs little introduction and has become a true icon of horology. It is a statement of style and Italian elegance. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, it is also a technical achievement as
Arnold & Son Adds the Time Pyramid to Its Instrument Collection - Monochrome Watches
Arnold and Son flies the Union Jack with pride, continuing a British watch making tradition that goes back to John Arnold (1736-1799) and his son John Roger Arnold (1769-1843). The company supplied marine chronometers to the Royal Navy for navigating longitude. The Instrument Collection, which boasts the Time Pyramid among others, harkens to the past, but recasts this past in innovative interpretations. The Time Pyramid is the latest addition.A magician never reveals his secrets is the answer given at every elementary aged birthday party where the magician is the event's top billing. Disappearing coin – just a wave of the hand. Guess the card - a touch of the card to the forehead. Rabbit out of the hat - a tap of the wand and Presto. Children's Ah, Wow, Cool is followed by How did he do that? The first look at the Time Pyramid elicits this same question, but instead of the magician's code of silence, Arnold & Son lets us peek. We get to see inside this watch, but it still loo
Antiquorum Auctions Patek Nautilus 5711 Green EUR 320000
Most watch enthusiasts are certainly aware of the current situation in the luxury sports watch field, with the most emblematic models of the category – namely the Nautilus and the Royal Oak Jumbo – reaching incredibly high prices on the second-hand market. As for the topic of the day, we’ll be talking about a unicorn, the recently introduced and already ultra-coveted Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A-014, with its desirable olive green dial. A watch that is almost impossible to obtain from retailers and boutiques, and that is already undergoing extreme speculation. And as yet another proof of this insane situation, Antiquorum has just auctioned such a Green Nautilus 5711, reaching a price of EUR 320,000 (before fees).?A model introduced in 2006 for the 30th anniversary of the model, and the most classic version of this icon of the luxury sports watch with a time-and-date automatic movement and blue dial, the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711 is undergoing impressive speculat
Patek Philippe Advanced Research 5750 Minute Repeater
Founded in 2005,?Patek Philippe‘s Advanced Research department aims at improving mechanical movements and bringing innovative solutions in the fields of materials (silicon, for instance) and technologies for watchmaking. This goes for the introduction of Silinvar (2005), the Spiromax balance spring (2006), the Pulsomax escapement (2008), the Oscillomax ensemble (2011), and a further optimized version of the Spiromax balance spring (2017). In 2017, the brand will look at something different, and that is a compliant mechanism for the dual-time function, in an Aquanaut. Today, following a year with already a grande sonnerie watch, the brand continues its researches in the field of chiming watch, with major improvements on the minute repeating watch, with the new Patek Philippe Advanced Research 5750 Minute Repeater.?The technical solutionsThe goal of the Advanced Research department is to bring new solutions in order to innovate, or in the present case to improve existing mechanisms
Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph ref. 5990/1A Replaces the Steel Nautilus Chronograph ref. 5980/1A - Monochrome Watches
This is quite something. Just two years ago Patek Philippe introduced a new 5980/1A with white dial (for laymen: that’s the Nautilus Chronograph) and now, two years later, they discontinue the steel 5980/1A models and replace it with a steel Nautilus Chronograph with a second time zone, as we know it from the Aquanaut Travel Time ref. 5164.That means that the 5980/1A-019 (the white dial Nautilus Chrono) has been in production for just two year. Since we’re talking about Patek, productions numbers are rather low, and this reference is now a very rare bird and we expect it to become very collectible. Although the other steel 5980/1A models are not as rare (but super rare compared to a Submariner for instance), we would not be surprised if the prices climb, now the demand cannot be fulfilled at the Patek boutique anymore and only on the second hand market. Now on to the newbie in the Nautilus family, which has an additional second time zone function, that looks and functions j
